How do you cope with acquired ADD?
NB: ADD = Attention Deficit Disorder

A question for thought:

I've joined The Net in good old 1995. No Google, no blogs, just a WebCrawler.com and Yahoo (if memory serves me right).

A typical 9600 baud modem session was: Aha, I need to look for X....Here it is.... Good... Lets read.... Disconnect. Back to usual life.

Now fast forward to 2013. My typical evening: I need to finish reading this book. Ok. One page. Wait, thats a wonderful quote, I should copypaste it to my skype contacts. And search on Wikipedia for more info. Wiki...hmm... Lets see whats new on Flipboard (IOS news reader). Ok, back to Wiki... back to reading...

And the loop continues, back and forth.

The only way I see is to pull the plug of the wifi router. Or more self-discipline.

Sounds familiar? What stunts do you use to overcome this?

PS: Excuse my English, its my second language.

It's not ADD, it's called multitasking combined with curiosity. I can get lost following wiki links for hours.

RE: How do you cope with acquired ADD?
On a serious note, I pretty much have to do the same thing in order to get any work done. If I have to study for a test, I turn the internet off (with the button on the side of my laptop). This is the only way I know I will be able to concentrate. If I'm reading a book, I pretty much have to resist the urge to look something up that I've just read about. I usually write the word or phrase down to look up later.

My work monitors my internet activity, no self-discipline required. Tongue

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
