Bug How do you pronounce ...
Have you noticed any correlations between the pronunciation of words with "st"
(such as "strength" and "straggler") as "shtrength", and "shtraggler" and any consistently identifiable factor(s) ?

Huh.....I can't say that I've ever noticed anyone pronounce it "shtrength" before. Is it an American thing, or do I probably do it and not even realize......?

So many cats, so few good recipes.

It reminds me of this: 'Sheckshi: what Sean Connery answers when a woman asks him how they look.'

I've noticed it; seems it might be an urban, New England and mid-Atlantic thing.

But, mostly, it's just fucking annoying.

Ah, so it's probably not part of our Canadian accents then.

I've heard it pronounced more like 'shrenght' and 'shraight' and 'shrong'.

I've heard one or two people insert that stray 'h' at the beginning of strength, but it's far far the minority. I can honestly say that I can think of dozens of other, more frequent, misuses, misspellings, and mispronunciations of the English language that actually do grate my cheese far more than this one - heck, I hadn't even thought of it actually, other than that I remember teasing a friend for saying it that way, once, long ago.

You're on the left coast; it seems to be a right coast thing.
