Depends on how you define free. The more you drink, the more you overestimate your chances of winning, and the more tips you drop to the girls giving you free drinks. Having worked in Mandalay Bay when I lived in Vegas, I'll tell you this. It's not rare for those girls to be making six figure incomes despite their salary barely breaking minimum wage.

I'm in the wrong profession.

The Las Vegas strip is a weird sort of place where you're better off being uneducated, but decent looking and good at dealing with rich ass holes and drunk people. One of the problems upper management has is in convincing people to leave service positions and enter into supervisory positions, because even if the salary is tripled it usually involves a defacto pay cut. There's like a two year waiting list just to get an interview to be a valet driver in places like Wynn because you can literally get tips as fast as you can run.

(Edit)
That said, most of the casinos are amazing towards their employees. As a military member, I got full salary as well as average reported tips for the previous year while on deployment or training, effectively pulling double salary. Even the police force in Vegas only paid it's National Guard or Reserve cops differential pay while they were deployed, meaning however much less the military paid them once they were activated, the city would cover the rest so they didn't take a temporary pay cut. Mandalay Bay, on the other hand, paid it's deployed workers the full amount regardless of what they were making with the military. Also, like most mid to high end casinos, it had an on site employee buffet you could eat at twice per shift, on site child care, brought dentists on site every so often so we could utilize our medical benefits more conveniently, and even bussed us from work to vote on election day, during which time we were still getting paid. They may have a reputation for being unscrupulous towards their "guests," but I've never seen a place that treats its employees as well as the major casino owners like Wynn or MGM Resorts International.

My cousin from the UK was a croupier in Vegas. Unfortunately he became a Jehovah's Witness - haven't heard from the guy in years. I assume he's no longer working for the casinos.

One. Peebothulu. Awesome guy!

NOTE: Member, Tomasia uses this site to slander other individuals. He then later proclaims it a joke, but not in public.
I will call him a liar and a dog here and now.

I was thinking it would be cool to stop and meet some TTA people along the way during my road trip from CA to MA.

If the Vegas/Death Valley thing ever happens--hopefully it will be before I leave for MA in June Hobo

I would consider going to a meetup event if it cost me less than 500 bucks travel and at least 10 well known members attended Tongue. At this point I've met none though Sad.

Not out of the question for me. Too much random shit going on at the moment to be able to make plans, but that's still almost a year for me to find an excuse to go. It could happen.
