How many churches are in your town/city?
And do you feel they are proportionate/disproportionate to the population?

There are 8 here and it seems like a low number considering the population.

This shithole I live in probably has 20 churches for every liquor store and there's plenty of liquor stores.

I can count ten churches just going down one street! I'm unable to find an actual count but I'd say there are at least fifty.
Population is roughly 22k - small college town so, it fluctuates downward in summer.

Goddamn

The thought of college students going to church makes me realize how different the world is from I how still like to pretend it is.

It's heartbreaking.

I live in a town near Boston, about 33,000 people.

We have about 15 churches/places of worship, including two Catholic churches, one Jewish temple (down from two, but our demographics have shifted significantly over the past 20 years). We have seen more Baptist/pentecostal/other fundamentalist churches arriving.

Two adjacent towns have Buddhist temples. One adjacent town has a mosque.

283 congregations - that seems like a lot but who knows how many actually have churches to go to?

For instance, there are 3 Zoroastrians but they are apparently on their own. Good for them! I'll bet those are guys I can actually hang with.

Freddie Mercury was brought up with a Zoroastrian indoctrination. He dropped it, of course but, I do know his family was always highly supportive of him, even early on. On the whole, Zoroastrians seem to love life and appear a lot less crazy than the freak show surrounding me.

I think if you gotta be a part of one of those big fucking "mega churches", you are probably pretty insecure about your faith. And who can blame you? It would be as futile as chasing someone else's dream. Shy
