RE: How many continents are there?
I was taught: Australasia (Oceania), N. & S. America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Antarctica. Along with the Indian and Middle Eastern sub-continents.
I like to use a 4-continent model. Afro Eurasia, America, Australia (Australasia/Oceania) Antarctica.. Mostly because I don't get most of the divisions, they seem unnecessary. Though, I will I will reserve judgement on the poll. The people closely associated with the namesake of female canines are suffering from a nondescript form of lunacy. So what it's not exposed? You can still walk on it, you can build on it, you can travel on it etc... Only the ice sheets melt away. Hell, there is roughly 60 people on Antarctica living there for several months as we speak. The point of a continent is that it's a large land mass. Antarctica is a large land mass that isn't near or part of any other land mass. So hence it's a continent. How did you not know Antarctica had land? seriously? |

RE: How many continents are there?
And the correct answer is more like 8. The definitions being used seem to be ones of convention. The more precise answer is look at the tectonic plates.
