That's a relief. I never got that far.

So why doesn't the earth sink to the bottom of the universe under all that weight?

It is, it's just a long, long way.

Hey, MoronDog, How about you calculate your virginity?Tongue

Dude, those are calculations that anyone with a high school diploma should be able to do.

This is where you should take a step back, look at the world, and realize how truly wrong you are. I only have a high school diploma and I can do those calculations. I know many people with college degrees who can't do them though. I doubt that my bosses at work could do them, or at least the majority of my co-workers can't.

So .... yeah....

I read the OP and my first thought was...

I really don't give a shit how much ice is sitting down there..

so I'm sticking to that answer...

13720000 * 2 = 27440000 km3 = 2.744e10 m3 of ice

The density of ice is 92.0 kg/m3 (not .920)

Therefore:

2.744e10 m3 * 92.0 kg/m3 = 2.524e12 kg = 2.524e9 tonnes

2,524,000,000

Or two and a half trillion tonnes.

That's my final answer. For real this time. Tongue

Cheers, Phaedrus. Makes sense.
(And it is right in the ballpark of what my intuition told me in the first place Big Grin )
