... what if he says, "Okay"?

Don't let those gnomes and their illusions get you down. They're just gnomes and illusions.

Then do it! As Sheldon Cooper's brother said to him, "Eat farts!" Smile

I will call him a liar and a dog here and now.

"You can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink"

Some people are afraid to doubt themselves. You could have a repertoire of answers that might never be comprehended fully by them.

I feel so much, and yet I feel nothing.
I am a rock, I am the sky, the birds and the trees and everything beyond.
I am the wind, in the fields in which I roar. I am the water, in which I drown.

Other holy books say everything in them is true too.

Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

I love that saying. It's so true. Dorothy Parker spun the word "horticulture" around using that old saying. "You can lead a whore-to-culture but you can't make her think." Theists can't think either. They're not allowed to think.

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

RE: How to respond?
The absurdity of Christianity is so apparent on so many levels, there's no reason to engage in a debate that is actually debatable. Was there a Jesus? Maybe, I don't know. It's irrelevant. Christianity is dumb either way.

"Read the scriptures," he says. I have, I reply, in their original language. He says they are eyewitness accounts. I say they are not and give dates of completion. I ask for contemporary sources.

He begins preaching to the others there, how I have been blinded. How foolishness is hiding in the guise of wisdom.

I honestly don't know how to respond to this. This person genuinely believes and I want him to at least understand where I'm coming from. I don't want these divisions.

Think of it as the little boy walking around in the hallway at school with the protective helmet, and little flag on his backpack who rides the shortbus and sings the theme song to spongebob squarepants all day. Of course you feel sorry for him, but you can't fix his problems with conversation, reason and logic to explain to him that spongebob isn't real...
