RE: How to tell someone...
I visit a naturist forum and people have a very similar question. How do I tell my parents that I am a naturist. As with this, I think that by labelling yourself you are making it a significant.

I always advise that instead of saying "Mum, Dad, I'm a naturist", they should just drop it in conversation how they feel more comfortable naked.

The same goes with atheism I reckon. Just say that you don't really believe anymore. If they push you, or maybe at a later date, just admit that you don't believe at all. From what you say it sounds like your wife already suspects this and you never know, she might not actually really believe either but is just used to the status quo.

Think about a 'phased' approach rather than a 'big bang'.

Let her come to the realisation that you are 'unfaithful'.

Let her observe that you (the person she cares for) have changed belief rather than that a belief has changed you.

That is the approach I am taking with my wife. It seems to be going OK, but it has not made it to resolution yet.
