I am now officially boycotting YouTube
Yep, that's right.

I am giving up my YouTube "addiction" on a semi-permanent basis.

I know what you're probably thinking: "Why the hell do I care if this random person whom I do not even know as a fellow forum poster much less a friend in real life boycots YouTube?"

But no, I urge you to keep reading to find out why ...

I don't know how many folks here watch YouTube, but for those that do, I'm willing to bet that you, like me, has been literally bombarded and inundated with right-wing propaganda ads from Prager University.

Fortunately, you can click through the ad after 5 seconds so no one is forced to sit there and absorb material designed to brainwash the ignorant and barely educated. So far I've seen ads from Prager University that explains why you should support Israel against Palestine, explains why universal health care can never work in the United States (even though it works in every other industrialized and developing nation on the planet), another ad praises the glories of capitalism and the evils of socialism (especially socialized medicine), and on and on.

Now, I'm not boycotting because the political right and the Trump administration's sycophant university are exercising their right to free speech. Not at all.

No, it's because Prager University must have bought nearly every single ad "spot" on YouTube. I'm now dying to see ads for movies and cars and pills again. I might even not click off the ad after 5 seconds just to enjoy the fact that the right-wing propaganda apparatus isn't trying to brainwash me yet again.

However, because of this non-stop "social conditioning" that is being spewed all over YouTube (you know, the same kind of "social engineering" that they *hate* the political left for supposedly doing) I just can't stand it.

Oh I know that personally boycotting YouTube will do absolutely nothing -- well, except for one thing: Keep my blood pressure from soaring through the roof. I get so *angry* ... genuninely angry ... whenever I see another Trump campaign ad (Hey, asshole, you won! The campaign is over already!) bragging about the 213,000 new jobs he (never) created during his first month in office or Prager University trying to convince people that universal healthcare could never work in America (what the fuck, man, America is just another country like all the rest of them and if it works for everyone else, it can sure as shit work for us here.)

I absolutely despise the right-wing propaganda apparatus because *their* propaganda spews poison, hatred, racism, and does its best to convince people that the rich need even *more* money to create jobs and how we should be grateful for our Auschwitz-style healthcare system. Oh yeah, and don't forget that climate change is all in our mnds (forget about how this April is the warmest in our region's history) and, for that reason, we need to give corporations discretionary authority to dump their toxic shit anywhere they damn well please (near poor neighborhoods, of course).

They already snookered the American people once by saying, "Yes, coal companies can now dump their waste into streams only. Yeah, just streams. We won't dump it in our nation's rivers ... just streams. See? That won't hurt anyone ..."

Hey jackasses, where do you think the water in streams ultimately ends up? Oh right ... in the fucking rivers! So they may as well dump their poison in our rivers and stop pretending that they're doing the earth good by only dumping in streams.

Okay, enough ranting for now.

For now.

Might as well get used to me ranting about Trump and his gang of misfit incompetants.

Cheers!

"If my God exists, then the laws in the Bible should apply to everyone. I am certain my God exists, so ..." -- words of a theocratic fascist justifying theocratic fascism.

You should read this.

You're dealing with a huge propaganda machine, many people have no idea.

Your YouTube must be quite different from mine. I sat through 87 ads for granola bars this morning.

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

Don't youtube ads work the same as google ads (because youtube is owned by google and all)?
That means they show you ads that relate to search history. Like I just clicked a youtube video to see what ad I'd get and I literally got the place I work at's ad, I assume because I go to their website a lot to check my payslip and roster. Pretty much all ads I get are related to my google searches or sites I've been too etc..

true... but you might have been googling something related to health or mountain climbing?? or disgusting crumbly food. I don't think it has to be specific the thing, just something loosely related to it.

Of course it could also just be that it didn't have any ads to match your searches so it just through general ads at you.

I don't know much about this topic. Dom's probably the one for this topic, she did SEO if I remember correctly so this probably isn't far off that.
