I am the passenger......
I am the passenger,
Fluorescent terminal I wait To be one Of a hundred or so sardines Packed in an aluminum can. Hurled through the domain of the gods At almost the speed of sound. Glass of champagne. And a portal to view a sea of clouds far below the steel blue space. The smell of recirculated air and peanuts And that strange donut shaped ice. Security patdowns, body scanners. Sweater vests, badges of faux authority. and latex gloves. Carry ons roll over linoleum. Tired travelers, near the end of their journey. To Paris, to Atlanta, to Capetown, to Bangkok. A giant churning machine moving men like schools of fish. To all points of the globe. Giant mechanical whales lift off strips of concrete and swim through the sky. Only 6,000 miles and 50,000 gallons of JET-A to go. The sun never sets. Not with an inflight movie. I am the passenger. But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth. ~ Umberto Eco |

RE: I am the passenger......
As much as I detest flying, it IS the safest mode of transportation. Make of that what you will.

I know people like to throw around "There are more car crashes than plane crashes", but, I'm pretty sure there are more cars than planes by a fairly wide margin, which would rather handily explain that. ![]() |
