Yes.

Asking "where" the universe came from or what was "before" it is much akin to asking "where on Earth did the Earth come from?", in very much that literal sense.

There is no such thing as a stupid question; I attach the caveat that a question may well become stupid if asked repeatedly and without heeding the answers given.

If you want to look into some newer ideas, take a look at Brane theory as it relates to cosmology. Wikipedia has an article with further links at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brane_cosmology. (Brane is shorthand for Membrane, a part of cosmic M-Space theory).
