RE: I come across this all the time
Maybe they're trying out for the Worst Salesmen of the Decade Award. Last decade's entry was:

"If you'll just buy the deed for this house from me, sight unseen, when you get to the address listed on the deed you'll find it's the most wonderful home you could ever hope for. Beyond your wildest dreams. I've personally been inside and it's amazing! You'll love it. It's terrific.

Yes, I know if you drive by the address, it looks like an empty lot, but the house is back there behind all the trees. No, you can't go see it now. You have to buy the house first, and only then can you get on the property. You have to believe in your dream home. Oh, sorry, no checks... cash up front, please, and in small bills."

"Theology made no provision for evolution. The biblical authors had missed the most important revelation of all! Could it be that they were not really privy to the thoughts of God?" - E. O. Wilson

Deface it and watch their little heads explode.

And my mind's in the gutter tonight so between the title and the OP I now have a mental image of Peter North giving a stack of religious tracts a money shot. Not quality porn.

Makes you wonder if she only shows herself to believers a) why there are so many believers to whom she has not appeared, and b) why there are so many 'former atheists' who converted after she revealed herself to them.

why ? thats such an arbitrary constraint
according to the apologists they claim that god can do anything and affect our lives in anyway he wants yet is totally incapable of showing himself unless you already believe he exists...

lets be honest here, this excuse is used only because they know that they have no way to prove god exists so they use this to try to avoid the burden of proof altogether
they use convoluted arguments and word games because they know that they can't rove any of their claims but they have decided in advance never to admit it

Yup. It's a wacky form of circular reasoning. Once you get on the treadmill of belief it's difficult to stop the momentum and get off.

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

"God will reveal himself to you only if you believe in him." Or something to that effect.

How do you respond to this stupidity? This sounds like it's another way around the inability to provide any concrete evidence of a god so you just gotta believe anyway.

Drives me nuts.

I respond with something like this: "Oh G-d has revealed himself to me, and do you want to know what he said? He said you're full of shit. Buzz off."

Sometimes I also insist that G-d told me that Jesus is a flaming douchbag whose eternal punishment is the shame over what Christianity has become.

In fact, next time someone brings it up, mention the supposed atheist to theist conversions. Do they think the converted are lying about seeing her? If so, why should we believe anyone who claims to have seen her. If not really an atheist, lying for jeebus?

Good point. I don't have to believe a man or woman exists for them to reveal themselves to me. So that attribute is NOT special or unique or valid.

The honest point of your reference, IMO is that religion serves its followers a useful purpose else they'd not be religious. So what does religion give its followers? Religion gives its followers comfort and self-assurance in their innate superiority, but science (when properly understood) can only make one uncomfortable and doubtful about knowing anything for certain.

So even science or seeing ghosts can serve the function of religion, not just the supernatural. The flaw is not in the religion itself but in human nature that can't stand to doubt itself as less than the innately superior conscious agent.

If pinned down such a person will try to avoid saying they are exceptionally righteous but not forever. They'll say it is not they but God that is righteous and so they deflect from their actual position as they innately know they are committing heresy, blaspheming against the Holy Ghost Itself, the worst of the sins.

Wrong thread.

"Sounds back asswards to me" usually shuts most up.
