Welcome!

I too started questioning my faith because of evolution and all the biological whatnots related to it. If you continue on your journey, you will find many other scientific contradictions to religion. Well, I did anyhow. Wink

Nice to have you here.

RE: I don't know if i want to be a christian anymore?
Welcome to TTA forum.

I think if you want to be a Christian, you have to ask yourself one fundamental question, and be honest about seeking the answer. The best and easiest place to start is with the following question: Who was/is Jesus? I think if you approach that question honestly, asking critical questions and accepting no claims without actual evidence, you will be compelled to conclude as I have -- he was nothing special, IF he existed at all.

There are three basic arguments for who Jesus is/was. The Christian version, you are familiar with.

The second basic argument is that he was an itinerant preacher whose legend grew after his death.

The third basic argument is that he never existed at all.

I think, if you look at the evidence for yourself, you will find that the second and third arguments are actually far more persuasive than the Christian argument.

That one question, Who is/was Jesus, opens up a Pandora's Box of other questions. Do not shrink from them. And always, always, no matter what answer is provided to you, follow it up with the basic question of skepticism: Where is your proof?

Jesus was raised from the dead! Where's your proof?
He's the son of God! Where's your proof? Who is God? Is there a God? Where's your proof?
He ascended bodily into heaven? Where's your proof?

Just be honest. The truth always is. The pursuit of the truth should be as well.

So, wait, now the OP is going to come back to the Theism and Atheism forum and go, "wah, they deleted my thread, the unwelcoming jerks"?

Yeah, I didn't know what happened to it for a while there myself.

RE: I don't know if i want to be a christian anymore?
Most people who were raised in religious households and later became atheists have gone through this period of uncertainty and questioning. It can take a long time to arrive at your own set of beliefs, and even longer to reconcile those with the rest of your life, both past and present. It's a journey.

There is a lot of good advice here, and many other threads if you look around dedicated to questioning theism and atheism. Do some research and continue to educate yourself. That's the best route to understanding your beliefs, whatever they may end up being.

There are people who consider themselves theists or Christians who don't buy everything in the bible. Some folks have a logical side that won't allow them to buy into all of the traditions and beliefs of a given religion, but still find comfort or security in the idea of a God existing. There is no rule that says that you have to fall 100% into any given category - no matter what the church says. It's your life and your beliefs must be your own.

I'm glad you recognize the hypocrisy of watching lesbian porn while opposing same-sex marriage. Many people do this and don't understand why it's so fucktarded. Dodgy

I hope you stick around a while and let us know where your journey takes you. Thumbsup

Quote:I have watched porn for quite a while and although i know it is a sin, i continued to do it anyway. All my christian friends (the guys) watched porn aswell so i didn't feel like i was doing anything wrong and it was just normal.

After careful consideration, I have to say that this statement makes me suspicious that OP's claims might be disingenuous. In short, I call "Reverse Poe".

I would prefer to be wrong about this (and I extend my apologies to OP if it turns out that I am). And if that were to prove to be the case, I would cheerfully accept any and all derision anyone might throw my way for it. Of course, that's no change, I cheerfully accept any and all derision anyway ;-)
