I have a TERRIBLE coworker, with the worst attitude ever? I need advice!!
So I've been working at my job for about a year now. We're a very well known restaurant, and we're not quite fine dining, but we're not Denny's either. So we're open on Thanksgiving and Christmas which sucks. Around the holidays I know everyone gets stressed out, but recently I've had enough with one coworker in particular. Lets call her Sally. Sally has SERIOUS anger issues, last Christmas she freaked out and punched the screen of a monitor and got suspended for a whole month. She can't handle her emotions properly, she's mean to workers and guests when she's under pressure. She's many of times had outbursts and has literally screamed at people for trivial things. She has yelled at one particular manager many of times, and has completely disrespected him and his authority. 3 days ago she went off on him and called him "a great f****** boss!" to his face. The day after that she claimed he was discriminating against her because he asked her to take out her nose piercing, and then she went off on him again. And this has happened numerous of times.
She can be extremely rude to coworkers, when shes angry or under pressure she will snatch things out of your hands and be super short with you. Recently about $450 went missing from one of my coworkers drawer, they're a photo company who is affiliated with us and makes money by taking pictures of guests and then selling them to them. The photo company is pretty sure of the person who did it, and they even have a witness who claims they saw the whole thing. One of the people from the photo company confided in Sally and told her about what happened, and Sally decided to go directly to the person who they were claiming who stole their money, and tell them everything the person from the photo company told them. The suspect then went to management and got our GM and told him what was going on. Our GM then called someone higher up and they suspended the photo company for awhile. All because Sally decided to spread gossip. When the photo person asked Sally why she did that, Sally freaked out and screamed at her and said shes tired of 'gossip'. Mind you, Sally is 34 years old. She's older than all of us. She treats people terribly. she made a bunch of statuses on facebook directly about gossipers and she said a bunch of nasty things. She called out a coworker on facebook, when she commented on it and said "shut up hoe, you're one of them." Sally tried throwing me attitude, and now I'm completely over it. She's a hypocrite, she doesn't deserve to work there. She creates more drama and stress and I can't stand her anymore. I'm sorry this is so long, but does anyone have any advice on how I should go about this?Dodgy

P.S. She also threatened that same coworker that she called out on facebook, and told her that one day she was going to smack her if she couldn't keep her mouth shut. In the past she has also sent very nasty and mean texts to this coworker.

Why hasn't your boss/manager fired her if she is mouthing off at them? Sounds like a management issue, not something you should take up with Sally 1 on 1, IMHO.

If the managers won't fire her, look for another job--different department of your company, or a different company.

You can't fix angry, impulsive people.

Yeah, If I was the manager she should have been fired a long time ago. It sounds likes she's only creating work stress and being agressive towards customers is always a big no no. If the GM or Manger doesn't do anything most companies have a HR department. Issues and concerned should be address to the authority figures. Nothing you can do on a personal level besides keep your distance. Maybe ask to work a different shift if you feel unconformable that much.

Management does slack on a lot of things which is the problem. And then we have our 'real boss' come in who is everyone's superior including the managers, and she's already aware of what Sally is capable of. She doesn't like Sally at all. And last time she came in, she heard Sally drop the F bomb and became very upset at her, and then made Sally cry.

And like, I like my job for the most part. We're just as dysfunctional as any other place is, but it's this ONE person who spoils it for everyone else.

Yeah and I'm hoping that nature will just take it's course and she'll just leave, because I really don't want to have to go to HR. But it feels that way. I am definitely keeping my distance.

Sit the manager down, and explain that she's abusive ... and ask what their plan is ? Tell them you'd like to know if they have a plan and they're going to have to make up their minds about who stays and who goes. She creates a hostile environment. It's illegal and they HAVE to do something.

You'll always find a turd in the punch bowl.

At one of my first jobs I worked with this girl that came in about a year after I started worked their. It was a Reebok show Outlet. She was getting paid $2.00 more then anyone that worked there even the lifers. And she enjoyed braging about it. She used the companies for for personal calls. (This was in the late 90's also so no cells) Her friends would come over to hang out, so she would spend most of the day out side on a smoke brake and I would be left inside running the store. Cashiering, customer serious clean up. She would even take an extra half hour on her brakes. But when it would come time for bonuses or work credit she would get it all. I even confronted her on her laziness and disrespect to me and the rest of the employees. This didn't end well for me. Especially when they started highering herI found out years later she was sleeping with one of the managers. Which would explain why she was so well protected.

At my job our issues is with our manager. No one can figure out what he dose. He takes credit for other's peoples ideas and work. And seems inept at just about everything. (I work for a engineering department at a casino)
