If I get grilled for it, because nazis killed jews, I'll just bring up that Christians promote the killing of gays, adulterers, people who commit bestiality, people who are incest, and non-believers.

Problem Christian school staff?

Horrible idea, disrespectful as well. What's important isn't the symbol, it's what it represents and how people percieve it. The cross may be the symbol of a religion that has murdered countless people, but not many people take it that way; those that do hardly ever take it personally. Jews, on the other hand, still have a fresh wound from the Holocaust. It's still a very painful and fresh terror that will not only offend any jewish students, but might hurt them as well.

Also, last thing we need is for atheists to seem like nazi assholes.
ALSOALSO, you'll be seen like a nazi asshole.

Latvian,

Hitler corrupted one of the worlds oldest known symbols dating back as far as 3000 years, as a means to further his national socialist agenda that was steeped in occultism. Particularly the Norse mythologies.

Unfortunately, he was so effective in mutating that symbol with the countless bodies that propped it up, from Roma (the largest population to fall to his insanity) to Jews, to fellow Germans not in goose step with the ideology, to gays, Christians and scores of others, that now all these decades later virtually no one who see's the Swastika is ever going to think it means anything other than that what is recalled as a symbolic legacy of Nazi Germany.

Don't do it. School isn't the place to try to educate faculty. You're the student, which means you'll take the brunt of the discipline that befalls you due to their ignorance.

And besides, what's to "combat" with regard to people who freely choose to wear crosses at your school?
True enough, the cross was a Roman capital punishment device reserved for the dregs of society, so as to make of them an example upon execution.
However, Christians see it differently. They find comfort in the symbolic representation of what it means to their eternal life, salvation and the Messiah they believe set them free. He suffered that, for them.

And while atheists can find that odd, see it for the myth or fable that it truly is because even the origins of that savior god predate the arrival of the new god in the long list of like myths, for Christians it's truth.

It doesn't threaten me that they choose to live their life that way. So what is there to defend against, unless you permit their myth to give your atheism cause to feel offended? You'll not change their mind. In fact, wearing a Swastika will simply communicate to those who wear crosses, that you're in dire need of saving.

They'll stand to paint you with the imagery that precedes you on your shirt. We're a visually biased society and as soon as someone see's a Swastika on someone's shirt, a tattoo of same, or even a pendant about their neck, that person is instantly labeled and dismissed. (Or welcomed as a brother by neo-Nazi's the majority of which are so ignorant and blatant non-Aryan that Adolph would have shot them himself.) Besides, if you think a cross symbolizes death and is a capital punishment torture device, then think of what the Swastika represents and the thousands of people that were tortured and put to death for all that that symbol stood for in the Nazi regime.

In either case you don't want that image to stick to you for the rest of your school year. If you want to be respected for your beliefs, respect others are entitled to theirs. Wearing whatever symbol rocks their personal boat. A cross can't hurt you.

If you want to make your own jewelery statement, why not wear the atheists symbol instead? (LINK)

I'd do the No Hotlink myself, but unfortunately there's no way to transfer those nifty sparklie's onto 100% cotton.

Bad hot linker, bad bad. No cookie for you.TongueTongue

If you were in Germany, you'd get arrested for that. They take that pretty seriously.

Anyway, I can understand your point, but I think that's a poor way of getting it across. Let's not forget that many Christians think that atheists ARE Nazis, and let's not promote this idea, right?

Actually, that's not a Nazi, it's Ralph Fiennes, an actor. Wink

Sorry, couldn't help it. He's actually one of my favorites.

Here are some actual Nazis:

I wore a shirt with a design similar to that green Samnite shield to a 'wear your own clothes for 50p' day at school, with the words "Samnites wish you luck, 500BC" underneath (I made it myself, but maybe a professional sells a similar shirt? xD). Funnily enough I was suspended for 2 weeks.

Not funny at all actually. That suspension goes on your permanent record, along with the reason for it, I imagine.

I'd have come back to school the next day, wearing the same shirt, with an essay on the Samnites and that shield emblem so as to help educate the blatant ignorance that plagues the school Principal. Suggesting they read it to learn something and thus be a role model for the student body, instead of ignorantly persecuting those who know more than she/he does.
If there was a problem with that, I'd return with my attorney. Call it a symbolic gesture. Wink
