I have a debate idea
How about having 2 opposing sides argue for the opposite side. e.g. an atheist take the christians' side of the debate, and a christian take the atheists' side debate.

I'd be interested in watching something like this if anyone can point me in the right direction.

RE: I have a debate idea
That'd require Christians to think and research and atheists to take up a position they know is pointless. It'd never happen outside maybe a scripted parody video.

Popcorn I put more thought into fiction than theists put into reality.

RE: I have a debate idea
So basically, You want Christians to pretend they are atheists and just keep spouting the same pseudo science bull crap they always have, except try and argue that it all means that god doesn't exist....and you want...an fellow atheist to go bash his head in with a club until he is on the same intellect level of a 2 year old?

My Youtube channel if anyone is interested.

If it was in a debate class, I'd go full on prepositional. I'd just go in circle after circle, and do my best to obfuscate what I was doing to make it seem more intelligent and compelling than it is. Rolleyes

RE: I have a debate idea
Great idea!

Because the religion V reason debate never, ever, ever goes anywhere (except round in circles) - can I suggest that these might be the 2 required positions in a nutshell?

Religious position
**************

Q: why do you believe god exists?
A: because it says so in the bible.
Q: how do you know bible is true?
A: because the bible is the word of god.

It does not matter what is said, I can always get out of it just by doing another loop round the circle.

Rational position
**************

Q: why is this meaningful to you?
A: because i can see it's rational
Q: how do you know it's rational?
A: because I can see it's meaningful

It does not matter what is said, I can always get out of it just by doing another loop round the circle.

people who take perspectives - argue.
people who take perspectives on perspectives play the winning move.
the winning move is not to play :-)

You're forgetting evidence.

I wouldn't argue against religion through 'rationality', because it's all too easy to bend it to your own will; especially in from of a gullible lay audience. Stick to evidence, the burden of proof, inference, and logical deduction.

Very good point, the anti-religion argument is reason based on facts. Let me edit the rational worldview side of the circular argument then:

Rational position
**************

Q: why is this meaningful to you?
A: because it's true that it's facts-based and reasonable
Q: how do you know it's true that it's facts-based and reasonable?
A: because I can see it's meaningful

How does that one sound?
