RE: I'm Tired of this crap
Sometimes, a Republican can say something that the Dems agree with, so maybe bipartisanship is not completely lost:

Quote:The top Senate Republican was also asked what "message" the president delivered to the U.K. last week when he publicly criticized London's mayor, shortly after a terror-related attack that left eight people dead and many more wounded.
“What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead,” said McCain, chairman on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

In a report titled: McCain says American leadership was better under Obama

I've been attacked (verbally) by flag-waving "Murican Christian Patriots" for opposing the Bush war in Iraq and being a "godless atheist Commie" (a redundancy I always loved); and by anti-war protesters for being a "baby-killing" veteran - in one memorable 20-minute period. RE: I'm Tired of this crap
A good start (I think) would be for the US to abandon the silly more than 200-year-old Electoral College system of voting by a group of 538 party officials... 435 members of the House of Reps, plus 100 senators, plus 3 electors from the District of Columbia. I'm sure it had some relevance in the late 18th century, but in 2016?

To me (and please correct me if I've got this wrong) some states are over-represented in the College, and some states are under-represented in the College. California, with 12% of the population has 55 EVs (I calculate it should be 66), and the lowest eight states combined with a total population of 1.94% have 24 EVs (I calculate it should be 11).

Further, out of the necessary 270 College votes, Clinton started on 222 votes, and Trump started on 163—which to me, in Oz, indicates where the favourite lay in the first place. Clinton then went on to receive 2,864,974 more primary votes than Trump, or 48.2% versus 46.1% total.

So... the US electoral system needs a major overhaul, does it not? Or am I missing something here? Huh

Agreed. The Electoral College system has outlived the time when it was useful. The vote should be based on the popular vote...period.

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

The main problem I have with that is I've seen mathematical models that show that only a handful of the large cities would ever decide the outcome. I agree the electoral college needs work, but a simple popular vote doesn't seem like the best option.

How about a weighted Popular vote.

I forget what that is, but I'll look into it. But I probably won't be posting again here. I'm sick of the political arguing, too. No reason to go tossing my opinions around.
