I'm a new person (to the forums, not the world).
Hello everyone!

I'm really glad I found this place. The frustration of living in this world where the vast majority are living in Middle Earth just gets to be too much sometimes. I love to talk and debate about religion, but for some reason it always makes people uncomfortable. So I've resorted to watching an endless number of Hitchens and Harris debates on youtube which inevitably results in me oscillating between cheering and screaming at my monitor. I've decided I'd to actually try to talk to real people, so here I am. Big Grin

You should accept your Middle-Earther-citizenship. At least if you go by the definition of Richard Dawkins Tongue (Humans aren't particularly big, small or fast, which is why our brains produce a solid world although in reality it's mostly emtpy space)

And welcome to the forum Smile

Cool - Hi Toby, it's good you could find a place to socialize. It's pretty informal here and the topics are pretty broad - it's not always about Theism or Atheism - sometimes it's about food, kids, music, whatever you want it to be about, really.

Look around and see what's up that interests you. It's all good. Maybe for starters, you could tell us a bit about yourself; life long or have you recently come to a non-Theist point of view? It'll be good to get to know you.

Welcome to the forum. Smile

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

I'm a youngish guy (24) and was not raised religious. In fact, that is of some consternation for me because I'm not sure where my fascination with religion and superstition comes from (not to mention that I'd love to be able to say I broke away from some super orthodox family). Cool I think I believed in god when I was a kid, but just kind of grew out of it around age 12 or 13. I took a community college course in Existentialism a few years ago and found great relief and joy in the writings of Sartre and Camus, and the exhilaration of finding a personal, humanistic meaning in an absurd existence.

I'm going to school right now to major in music and hopefully will find work in the theatre (I just love big Broadway musicals); a flimsy plan, I know.
