I need an appropriate answer to this (evolution)
"Do you know of any case of a mutation from one species to another which is observable?"

Even though I have explained that evolution does not happen overnight, he insists with this. I need an appropriate example to answer with, in the form of "no, but do you know any case of ...... which is observable?"

In short, I need something that is not directly observable but is an undisputed fact. Before this, I told him things like "I can't see electricity, but that doesn't mean I have no electric power in my home".

Many verses are like silver threads
tied on the chimes of the stars-
if you pull them,
a silver peal makes the horizon vibrate.

Well, it's a great one, but he will still tell me that it's a gull turning to a gull, not a gull turning to a whale.

Two different species of gull (that cannot interbreed).

If this person is seriously asking for examples of e.g. a monkey turning into a human, then why are you bothering with them?

Rolleyes

Hehehe.

Then the crowd will groan when he asks for proof of the gull turning into a whale.

Throw the gulls at him and see what happens.

I will, along with the fact that there's no proof for what he's asking, in the same way there can be no proof of a baby turning into an adult overnight ;P

Do you want observations of speciation, then?

I've a go-to post on the topic. It's really special to watch certain people utterly ignore it. It's been a few months, actually, there's probably more I could add...

They appear to have an understanding of mutations that is more in line with the X-men school of thought than reality.

It would be worth pointing out 1. that they are presenting a question that is devoid of intelligible subject matter and requires they understand what a mutation is and what evolution is so they can understand why the question is a stupid one.

2. If they are asking for examples of speciation, you've already been given links and I'd just point at the fossil record and say look some of the better examples we have. Like whale and horse evolution.

Remind him that there is no proof of his silly god playing in the dirt and creating man, either.
