The feelings of awe that rainbows inspire pale in comparison to the feelings when you see this thing.

I saw one on a train ride a few years ago and I was so amazed that I was actually scared. I was literally like Ohmy

Sadly, my camera was out of battery and my phone took crappy photos. The pics I took simply looked like a big light in the sky.

Yes, I've seen those. I think the ones around the sun have a specific name but I could be wrong. They're really neat. I've seen them in the Spring here in wet ol' Oregon.

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

For some reason, whenever I see a rainbow, I feel like everything is going to be just fine. No matter what's going on in the world around me. :=)

Your part of Oregon must be wetter than mine. Rain/snow hasn't been that great last year or this so far.

So that's what its called, I seen one 2 weeks ago. I was just standing on my front lawn and was looking at the clouds and there it was.

Ever see a sun dog? It's kind of like a rainbow's refraction of light interacting with ice crystals in the atmosphere. I've seen them in winter and summer. Sometimes there is just one and sometimes there are two but when it appears, it gives the illusion that there is more than one sun. I can't remember if it was last winter or the winter before ... there was a huge early morning sun dog seen all over Kansas.
Here's a sun dog from 2009 in Fargo ND...

it's very similar to the one in I saw.

Well, half a badger anyway.

Rainbows are beautiful but fleeting. Too bad you didn't get a pic Shadow.

I love meteorological phenomena! Got to see ball lightening once. Would love to see a Sun dog, St Elmo's Fire, and the Aurora Borealis, in my lifetime.
