RE: I seem to have the opposite problem than most of you...
The teachings of the bible are extreme. It's impossible to follow all of its teachings, but in a way, you are right. If you were to buy into its bullshit and do your best to follow it to the letter, you would indeed be more extreme than Westboro.

It's set up for you to fail, gets you ensnared in guilt, tells you it has the answers and comfort, then the cycle repeats.

I'm not troubled by the lack of something to have faith in. I'm troubled that I was lied to, by the atrocities committed in the name of religion, that I have to keep my mouth shut to my family to maintain my sense of community and acceptance from them or suffer rejection. My version I had in my head of a hippie Jesus and us all frolicking off into the eternal sunset - just wishful thinking. Doesn't reflect reality, nor what is even presented in the bible. In this section find my thread "Dead to Me." I wrote that shortly after deconversion if you'd like to know what my thoughts were on the matter immediately following.

Be well.

"If there's a single thing that life teaches us, it's that wishing doesn't make it so." - Lev Grossman

Believing by definition means assuming that something is true when you don't really know.

Why would I be troubled by not believing shit? If something is actually true, then belief is not needed. Then I know.

No trouble there.

Care to explain why you think this?

Be honest, you pulled that out of your ass didn't you?

While it's goo that you care about 'what is true'.

I think a more important aspect is to care about what's real.

Since apologetic's can't seem to actually give/talk about anything that is real, then you really don't have to worry about what they're saying. Big Grin

(Ok, maybe not them Laughat ).

Your bigger problem seems to be claiming knowledge you don't possess.
