I think I may quit church.
It's a shame too... the church I attend is an awesome church; doctrinely sound. Great people, great pastor.

But, Jess and I's hearts aren't in it anymore. It's several factors, really.

The two big ones are what happened at my last church, and what just happened last week with my brother.

The senior pastor at my brother's church forced him to resign because he felt my brother's personality didn't match what he thought a family life minister should be.

Apparently, they want someone that will coddle the congregation and BS them instead of preaching doctrine. My brother is more of an introvert than me... and that's saying a lot; however, he teaches and preaches what would be considered "truth" in Christianity.

I'm so disgusted with Christians right now. I can't stand to be around them. Both Jess and me are completely jaded.

Over the past couple of years, I have seen so much evil pour from Christians that it's nauseating. On the flip side, in the past two years, I have seen so much love, acceptance, and concern pour from you atheists that it has helped me make it through.

I can honestly say that it wasn't my Christian friends that helped me through some of my hardest times in my existence; no, it was my atheist brothers and sisters that held me and comforted me in times of extreme trouble.

I want nothing to do with Christians or their church. They can keep it. I don't need them to show me Christ. Christ shows through you lovely people.

The bad part is I want to raise my kids in church, but I can't justify anymore exposing them to this hypocrisy. They are going to see and feel so much evil in their lives that it's wrong for me to force them to be fooled by a guise which the church dresses up as "Christianity".

I can teach my children about Christ and His love without tainting their view of how Christians are supposed to act.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, I suppose.

I know some of you may be thinking this is my step towards atheism... it isn't. My belief and trust in Christ is strong and true... I've just lost all attachment to those that claim His name and practice evil.

Besides... would y'all really want me to become an atheist? It would just seem to... weird... right?

I don't know... just been a tough year... lots and lots of personal family issues... my grandmother dying in February... my grandfather dying today... the ordeal at my old church... me losing my job... my brother losing his job... these things have just kind of made for a melancholy outlook as of late.

Well, that's a good start, but you're still going to stick with the whole "I love and trust Jesus" thing?

RE: I think I may quit church.
I am sorry to hear about your grandfather, and on Cohen's birthday too.

I would suppose that hardest part of leaving organized (supposedly) religion is the loss of that community. However, do you really need that to support what you believe? You seem pretty strong in your convictions.

Sorry to hear about the situation with your brother...doesn't he have pretty new twins? I hope they at least gave him a decent severance.

I am here if you need to vent.

Damn it!
There I was all ready to say something smart, shallow and inappropriate...

Dude, I feel for you. PM me if there is anything you need.

Meanwhile... you can't leave! We won't be able to claim to have a church-going christian as Admin anymore.
We would fail our Irony finals.
I am disappoint.

Seriously... PM me... anything.

RE: I think I may quit church.
That's really too bad about your gramps. My grandparents were really important to me.

We have some friends, and exactly the same thing happened to them as your brother.
She is a compete sweetheart, and he is a very nice guy. They actually met in Chicago, when they went to Moody Bible Institute. He had a decent church job, in a big mega-church, in which they were totally integrated and immersed. Then one day, he was out, for similar reasons. So she went to nursing school , and is one of the best nurses ever, (she now works "charge" in a big CCU unit), and he looked for another church job, but eventually went to an IT program, and got a nice job. But they will never feel the same about any church. It put big chips on their shoulders, about organized religion. It's just amazing how churches can "blow themselves up", like that.

When do you start your new job ?

Take out your Dick Tracy decoder ring. Read it as metaphor.
It's all good. The force is strong in this one.

Thanks, Angie. Yeah, they called my mom on her way home from Cohen's party. She tried to make there before he died, but she didn't.

I mean, it was expected... but losing someone is never easy.

And, you're right... I don't need a community in order to nurture my Christianity; but, I think it's important for my family... as a Christian family.

We'll see. Only time will tell, I suppose.

And yeah, his twins are 10 days older than Chloe. He said he's done with the church as well. I'm thinking he's going to finish his PhD and teach somewhere.

Thank you for being such a good friend, by the way.

Thanks man. I really do appreciate it.

At this point, I don't even know what to discuss, though. It just is what it is.

And, we still have or irony Smile

Afterall, I'm still a Christian admin.
