Consider

Um, no?

Since... even the act of trying is doing something,

So.. to not try and fail (If failing is the aim) is a success?

Consider

Sorry, that's all I've got.

In this scenario, to fail would be to succeed and to succeed would be to fail. So no, you "failed" to succeed in this example.

Jenny nailed it. Not complex at all, just poor English.

"If we are honest—and scientists have to be—we must admit that religion is a jumble of false assertions, with no basis in reality.
The very idea of God is a product of the human imagination."

Yeah, I don't see any complexity either. The questions involved are
a) what was your desired outcome?
b) how close did you come to reaching it?

It only gets confusing if you try to evaluate your success against two different (and conflicting) goals simultaneously.

Do or do not, there is no try.

As the brilliant mythbusting minds Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage put it:

"Theology made no provision for evolution. The biblical authors had missed the most important revelation of all! Could it be that they were not really privy to the thoughts of God?" - E. O. Wilson
