Iceland & Scandinavia
Less than half of Icelanders claim they are religious and more than 40% of young Icelanders identify as atheist. Remarkably the poll failed to find young Icelanders who accept the creation story of the Bible. 93.9% of Icelanders younger than 25 believed the world was created in the big bang, 6.1% either had no opinion or thought it had come into existence through some other means and 0.0% believed it had been created by God. Norway has the largest Humanist society in the EU relative to its population.
"is one of the largest secular humanist associations in the world, with 84,300 members" Source: Wiki.

Sweden has been referred to as 'the least religious' country in the EU....
"Almost eight out of ten Swedes are either "not religious" or "convinced atheists", according to a new global study that concludes the Nordic nation is the least religious in the West." Source (Apr 2015):

I have been reading a thread on Thinking Atheist about Southern US atheists and couldn't help but note the comparison with the EU and UK. Atheism is commonplace in Britain (though its PM says he "does god").

Nobody gives a shit about religion in Norway. People might say they're "christian" but they don't go to church. They've also never read the bible. The only people who do are crazy fundies. Even the KRF (Christian People's Party) have more in common with human ethic ideas rather than the ideas from the chruch.

Religion stopped being important for the common folk of Norway a long time ago; we got rich.

I love it, free thinking is beginning to spread throughout the world more and more. The more of the non-religious stats that get out and get accepted the more people will realize they don't HAVE to follow a religion "just because". Soooo... the more stats the better!

I have always thought that the biggest support for religion was peer pressure and this proves it. Once the peer pressure is off for people to conform to religious indoctrination it fails miserably. Clap

"believed the world was created in the big bang"

Wait, what? I would have answered no to that, lol. I'm pretty sure the Earth formed when a bunch of stuff coalesced into a ball, long after the big bang. Tongue

I believe they have a very low crime rate too.

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

In the UK Cameron's insistence that the country is a "christian" one is, in my experience met with derision, except among those of the target voter-audience he's talking to. In other words the traditional, conservative voter who only goes to church for weddings, funerals and might turn up for the service on Christmas Eve, but otherwise never sets foot in a church.

He also did it to capitalise on anti-islamic sentiments following recent islamist outrages on mainland Europe.

The guy has all the integrity of a time-share salesman.

Alistair Campbell who was the Press Secretary during the Blair administration had it right when he told Blair, "Tony, we don't do religion."

Even little old Catholic Ireland is turning it's back on the church. We're running out of priests. The only Norwegian I know is very religious. She's married to an American chap. A really nice couple with a gaggle of kids. They're baptists or something.

NZ cares so little about religion we make Norway look fanatically religious.
