I believe the state of KY gave the creation museum money while cutting funds for little things like education, public safety...

I believe they were given tax breaks, not actual funding.

I'm sure your just being a stickler for facts like a good Atheist but I just feel compelled to point out that either way the state looses revenue for the benefit of the creation museum.

Yes, though HoC would say I'm a poopyhead. Dodgy

RE: Idiots! Stupid, stupid idiots!
My husband teaches high school and has to deal with some of these religious nuts. Fortunately he doesn't teach science but knows what some of the science teacher have to deal with. Most of them teach evolution and to hell with the religious right.

Teachers have to deal with politicians on one side and family problems on the other. It's harder to be a teacher, especially a science teacher than it used to be.

Just a little off topic but my husband teaches Shakespeare which has a lot of bawdy, sex driven characters. Some of it could almost be X rated but the religious right don't know that and think it's fine clean literature.

From Mid Summer Night's Dream

"My cherry lips have often kissed thy stones"
or "making the beast with two backs" ....having sex, from Othello.

Shakespeare Insult 13 – Henry IV Part 1
“That trunk of humours, that bolting-hutch of beastliness, that swollen parcel of dropsies, that huge bombard of sack, that stuffed cloak-bag of guts, that reverend vice, that grey Iniquity, that father ruffian, that vanity in years?”

I also find it pretty funny how people only protest the things they're told to protest. So inconsistent... but it does show that most of them are doing zero thinking about it.

Shakespeare is about a 60:40 mix. 40% brilliant analysis of the human condition, and 60% sex jokes.

That's only the comedies. Check the body counts in the tragedies.

I especially like Titus Andronicus. Bloody good fun.Yes

Meh; the tragedies might be 40:60.

Still plenty of dick jokes in Hamlet!

I'd just like to note here that this is a poor argument/concern. We have countries like India, or Saudi Arabia, in which millions of their people are literally living in the stone age, with society as a whole being extremely religious, and yet segments of the population have technologies (medical, scientific, military) which are as advanced as you can get- rivaling any other country in the world.

I'm only saying that technology wise, this isn't a concern. But what is a concern is that millions in poverty that I mentioned earlier.

I would suggest that it is inconsistent to be concerned about millions in poverty, but not be concerned about ensuring the future of science. Science has had and continues to have a major positive impact on human problems such as poverty.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

First off thanks for the clarification on the tax break vs. funding.

Secondly, you aren't a poopyhead?Tongue

This is simply further proof that education needs to be federally regulated. The religious use the state government as a method to cram their pseudoscience through and block any real progress.
