Sorry to hear that Carmen. Some of my Christian associates can be a bit knee jerk, as a libertarian oriented person I think we should be allowed to follow our conscience.


Frankly if I were in your shoes I would try to fudge things a bit and just say something like "you are an agnostic" or "you are not very religious". And hopefully that would be enough so you don't have to lie or bite your tongue.


Unfortunately, the Atheist label according to my perception is scary to many religious minded people and I've seen opinion polls that seem to concur. I think some of the "Evangelical" Atheists like Dawkins etc. may have poisoned the well for the rest of you.

I don't know which one of you it was that told others that you were atheist but that's really nobody's business. the lesson your daughter might be able to take from this is to not tell friends or their parents that her parents are atheist.
