Image Posting Issues
From time to time people will fail over and over again to properly link photos. One of the main reasons for this is actually that they are doing all the steps correctly but copying the wrong URL. A lot of image sharing sites have many social networking features which highly complicates the coding for the pages. Let'suse this thread to discuss how to get images to work from sites that don't seem to want to work. We need some sort of faq on this so people don't have to keep asking.

Fisrt of all let me suggest that when sharing images you use photobucket this free image hosting site is the easiest way to upload images and share them. You can use others, but if you do there will be multiple links and sometimes the one you need won't even exist.

We'll edit this post as we find more difficult image sharing sites, but for now I'm taking care of Flickr. As a social networking image site, flickr focuses on getting people to come look at it. To this end if you upload an image onto your flickr account and then choose share they will give you links to send that take people to the flickr page (coding that some of our members really wont like).

Here's the quick ref for flickr

Open the image's page and then choose "share"

In the drop down box for share at the very bottom is "Grab the HTML/BBCode"

It will be in HTML mode which has a lot of commands along with links

"<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/53242123@N02/5419531965/" title="Valentines Shaded by LilithPride, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5252/5419531965_915f5bcf6d.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Valentines Shaded"></a>"

The bolded portion is what you're looking for. It's the url found after src= which means source is. If you just choose get link it will give you the webpage link not the image link.

In order to get this information you'll need to copy the entire thing so just copy it into the post box here and delete all but the url you want.

Then drag your mouse over the entire link and go up to the posting tools and choose add image. This website's posting editor will realize that the chosen url is the image's url and add the code. If you would rather use code you can simply put[img] at the start of the url and [/img] at the end.

This post is a work in progress and I will edit it as we find more sites that need help. And of course as people suggest better visual ways to explain these things.

Once again if you are having problems we can make your favored site work, but if you'd rather make things easy just use photobucket

I'm not a non believer, I believe in the possibility of anything. I just don't let the actuality of something be determined by a 3rd party.

RE: Image Posting Issues
If you are using Firefox (as well as some other browsers) you can also right click on the image, select view image. and copy the images URL from the address bar then paste it between
[img] PASTE IMAGE HERE[/img] as Shown above.
Or you can click.

and then paste the image in the text box.

This method works for most sites but not flickr.

RE: Image Posting Issues
I'll just go ahead and show tinypic.com because I find it very quick and easy to use.

So basically you get a site with advertisement and this:

you chose what pic you want
click "upload now"
enter capcha
wait a few seconds

end up here and copy the img code as it is directly into the forum:

photobucket has the same, as far as I know tinypic and photobucket are the same just that you have to register for photobucket and you don't for tinypic.

RE: Image Posting Issues
Leela, I use Direct Link for Layouts, it works fine. I just put it between [img], it's the same link, only less "prepared". I have been pointing out this issue for a few weeks as well, but they told me it's all visible, so I figured it was my filters at work. Apparently, it was not.

Most of the time, I just use some google image, right click and then Copy Image Address, and put it between [img], that also works.

RE: Image Posting Issues
Please refer to this explanation while you are creating this FAQ, this is the reason for all this commotion...

Only public pictures can be used like this, if the site requires a person to be logged in, you can not see the picture, as you do not have the permission to view it.
