In God We Trust
We have heard that America is not a Christian Nation. It was the position of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson as referenced in the Treaty of Tripoli.

While they may have not felt that the nation was founded on the Christian god, ther is evidence that the people who created the United States that the creation of the nation was intended or set into motion by Providence whether Providence was a god or not. One has only to reference the Great Seal of the United States of America, whose reverse side bears the Latin inscription ANNUIT COEPTIS NOVUS ORDO SECULORUM, which translates to "With the approval of Providence, a New Order for the Ages." (Look at the reverse of a $1 bill. Along with the pyramid and all seeing eye imagery, it bears a relation to Freemasonry, not surprising as several Founding Fathers were Freemasons.

The phrase "In God we Trust" never appears on paper currency or coins in the US until the Civil War, when there was a religious revival in the Union at that time. The phrase does appear in American culture as early as 1812, when Francis Scott Key penned it into the last stanza of the Star Spangled Banner.

"Then conquer we must,
When our cause, it is just.
And this be our motto, "In God is Our Trust".
And the Star Spangled Banner forever shall wave.
O'er Land of the Free,
And the home if the brave."

These are just some examples. Can you think of others?

"We were conservative Jews and that meant we obeyed God's Commandments until His rules became a royal pain in the ass."

- Joel Chastnoff, The 188th Crybaby Brigade
