I wouldn't be surprised if God's penis was small if he had one, he created an entire universe filled with galaxies, planets, stars, etc. just to impress the people he created on one little tiny planet who will most likely never even see most of what he's created. That's gotta be overcompensating for something.

It's his fault.

Atheism is NOT a Religion. It's A Personal Relationship With Reality!

Why is anyone at all circumcised?

RE: In God's Image
Surely god created us in his image. All our violence, discrimination and sexism are pretty good evidence for it.

The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

Consider Michaelangelo didn't buy into cruelty to statues? I mean it's bad enough that the poor boy has to just stand there naked for eternity while people make disparaging comments about his wang.

(28-03-2016 03:39 PM)SitaSky Wrote:  Every once and awhile during a debate with a Christian I bring up how the Bible says Adam was made in God's image. What does this mean? It wouldn't make any sense for God to have a mouth for example, he doesn't need one to eat or speak, he doesn't need eyes to see or ears to hear, being an incorporeal all knowing being and immortal it wouldn't make sense for God to have any of the physical traits of a man.

Usually once they realize the impossibility and the silliness of a God looking like a hairless upright primate they say "No, it's not his actual image but his characteristics, like his morality, intelligence, etc." but, even that interpretation is not right, we don't have nearly the amount of intelligence God has, the story of Genesis makes it very clear that God is not like the ignorant, easily tempted, emotionally weak being that Adam is. The Bible states several times when God does something truly awful that it's ok, God can do that but humans can't, we are not on the same level in any way. Is it the the idea that we have a "soul" and so does God? Ok who gave him his soul? Is it a gift only for humans and why are our souls so easily corruptible to the point where it can be damned forever? if God gave it to us and it's his "image" of a soul, shouldn't it be perfect because he's perfect?

We aren't the only self-aware intelligent animals after all, even Gorillas have been taught sign language and can understand death and morality, were they made in God's image as well? So...
When the Bible says we/men were created in God's "image" what does that mean?

They changed the whole aspect of what god was in the bible. Different sects of Judaism saw god as having a physical body. One sect depicted very real and physical traits -nostrils to smell the sweet savor of a sacrifice, skin that enjoyed the cool of the day in the garden of Eden, a god that certainly didn't know everything, asking where Adam was when he walked through the garden of Eden.

Other sects didn't like that, so they would portray god as a cosmic entity without form, that was never seen, but somewhere in heaven looking down on us humans. The differences between Genesis 1 and 2 show these two contrasting viewpoints, as time went on, the cosmic version of god won out.

God stated in Genesis let US create man in OUR image. Maybe the US was who god was referring to?

But then they would have to acknowledge someone other than god right there at creation who we are modeled after. Best to assign this to Mysterious Ways....
