Indias new prime minister
Neranda Modi will be Indias next prime minister. The first right wing prime minister since 2004, he ran his campain on the promiss of bringing economic groth and improved inferstructure. Controversy surrounds him due to his handling of communal violance in 2002. But the electorate probably attributed much to him because of the economic success of the state he governd as chief minister Gujarat.

So what will this mean for the West?

I guess we will see an India taking a harder line against Pakistan and China.
And potentialy, if his economic reforms are successfull, a move of manufacturing jobs from China to India.

From what I understand it, he's a far right conservative Hindu.
Sucks to be a minority in India right now.

Great! Just what need right now in this region... posturing super-powers!

'Cause that always ends well, doesn't it?

My friends are already getting jittery about Chinese 'interest' in Vietnamese waters. China losing revenue to India will only make them more focused on expanding their portfolio.

Weeping

Modi is bad news. A lengthy piece on him, but perhaps of interest. Bad news for the whole region, too.
