Intelligent RE-Design

http://phys.org/news/2013-02-scars-human...sical.html

"If an engineer were given the task to design the human body, he or she would never have done it the way humans have evolved," Latimer said.

After reading this article I wonder what biological changes would you propose to improve our bodies.

A few quickly come to mind but I'll limit it to one to get us started.

1) Total separation of oral cavity leading to our digestive tract and our nares (nose) leading to our respiratory tract thus assuring that neither food or water would obstruct our respiration. No choking (a lá cetaceans).

"Ocean: A body of water occupying about two-thirds of a world made for man - who has no gills.” ~ Ambrose Bierce
“I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man's reasoning powers are not above the monkey's." - Mark Twain in Eruption

Yeah, the choking to death one is fucking ridiculous. Damn you meme/gene co-evolution!

Also, they say that human walking is closer to a series of controlled falls. I'd do something about that.

And the spine? Fucking useless. I'd reinforce the hell out of that thing.

And laser beams... oh, wait, I suppose that's a bit too much.

And better memory.

And the spine? Fucking useless. I'd reinforce the hell out of that thing.... wait...

And we'd live longer.

And both birth and getting kicked in the nuts wouldn't hurt as bad.

Gills would be nice.

And I'd adjust the chemical sensors in the nose and mouth so that unhealthy food tasted awful and vegetables tasted like pizza!

And the male orgasm would last waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer.

Peace and Love and Empathy,

Matt

Telomeres wouldn't shorten due to free radicals

Teeth would regenerate

Farts wouldn't smell but would be louder and longer Big Grin

Poo would smell like freshly baked bread

Breasts would stay perky

I'll second that orgasms should be longer...

Humankind Dodgy (a total misnomer)

Surely there are thousands of things that could be thrown out there, evolution certainly has it's issues.

My main point would be living longer. Less than 100 years? psht. That's a joke. If this is the only life we get, I'm thoroughly disappointed.

2.5 billion seconds total
1.67 billion seconds conscious

NOT only, it was just the first thing that came to mind that is relevant to me.

I'd be happy to give guys the ability to have multiple orgasms. Anything is better than the old pause, groan, roll over, followed by snoring.

No wait period. Boom.

The sun rises in the West and the bird shits on the coffeetable.

1. Anything that you add, you must take something else away.
2. If you add something without taking something away, you have to change the animals behaviour (requires more energy to produce/maintain something, so more eating?)
3. Better just to rearrange.
4. Make sure it's actually NECESSARY, or not easily made redundant.

I'd probably do away with sexual dimorphism. Males and females would be chemically similar (testosterone, estrogen) meaning similar body types and mentalities for the majority of their lives.

Although ones sex will always be at a disadvantage by being idle during pregnancy.

This change would undoubtedly naturally create a more equal, innovative, and wealthier society. The reformed psychologically would most likely spread in relation towards other "races" and other targeted groups.

Bah.

VIVE LA DIFFÉRENCE!
