RE: Introduce Yourself HERE!
I suggest continuing the conversation here: http://www.thethinkingatheist.com/forum/...ark-Dreher

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.

RE: Introduce Yourself HERE!
My name is John, I'm an atheist, and I notified fundamentalist apologetics ministry CRI today that one of their article writers, James Patrick Holding, honestly doesn't care if the bible is the word of God.
----------

To Whom it May concern,

Did you know that a professing Christian whom you have allowed to post articles at you website, has made clear, repeatedly, that he honestly does not care whether or not the bible is the inspired word of God?

The person I am talking about is Robert Turkel, who changed his name to James Patrick Holding.

His website is http://www.tektonics.org/
His email address is: jphold@att.net
His residence address is: 2609 Greywall Ave, Ocoee, FL 34761

You host an article of his at http://www.equip.org/articles/confrontin...of-the-age

Notice how concerned Holding is about stuff that is top priority to CRI:

from http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/showth...-Me-Thread
---------------
spirit5er: I just found out that you made a statement several years ago that you personally don't care if the bible is the inspired word of God or not, so that your gargantuan efforts to "defend biblical inerrancy" were all in the name of finding a way to beat up other people and had nothing to do with your personal convictions whatsoever. Better break out that "I-was-just-being-saracastic" excuse again, you're gonna need it to back out of that blooper.

Holding: I wasn't being sarcastic. Each of the 20 times I have said something like that, it was genuine. Which one did you have in mind?
------------------

If you wish to avoid a public relations disaster (I will be copying this to others), give Holding a contradiction that you'd love to see him reconcile...his totally dismissive attitude toward biblical inspiration, and the "I" in CRI's stated goal "EQUIP":

from http://www.equip.org/about/
"This brings us to the “I” in EQUIP, which stands for integrity. Recall Paul’s admonition: “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”"

If Holding says he honestly doesn't care whether the bible is the word of God or not, is that consistent with CRI's mission? How about a Christian who "doesn't care" whether Jesus rose from the dead? Could you seriously defend their remaining in your flock, on the technical ground that 'not caring' is different than 'actually denying'?

And if Holding tries to back out of the problem by simply confessing that he lied and should be forgiven,
don't forget that you can know a tree by its fruit. Holding may verbally allege anything to get out of this problem, but what is his fruit? He admitted in the above-cited quote to having alleged on at least 20 prior occasions that he was not being sarcastic but genuine when asserting that he doesn't care whether the bible is the inspired word of God.

Was he lying about that too?

If that is not enough, Holding says theologyweb.org is the 'exclusive' place that he uses to host his debates about Christianity:

----------
from http://www.tektonics.org
Theology Web
Our exclusive place for debate!
---------

Go take a tour through Tweb, note all the doctrinal debating that it facilitates amongst Christians themselves, and then ask yourself if Tweb sounds like the perfect violation of Paul's admonition in Titus 3:9:11 for Christians to avoid ceaseless in-house debates about biblical subjects. I recommend you start with the thread in which Holding admitted he doesn't care about the doctrine of biblical inspiration. Childish pretentious unnecessarily disagreeable wannabe apologists for Christianity seeking little more than to stroke their own egos have never before been packed so tightly into one single part of the universe:
http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/showth...-Me-Thread

The idea that Holding should be presumed an authentic Christian brother is perfect nonsense. Other websites have collected some rather grossly pornographic comments Holding routinely makes in his discourse with skeptics:

RE: Introduce Yourself HERE!
Hi, I'm a retired elementary principal in South-West Michigan. I have never been a believer. When I was about 7, my mother sent me down to Sunday School and the lady explained that Lazarus was brought back to life...then the class was over and I sat there stunned thinking that was not possible. Later I asked her about the story of Noah and the flood and she just said, "Those are children's stories." I thought that made sense. Fortunately my mother took us to church only a handful of times and we never said prayers. So, I've called myself an atheist my whole life, but I never really gave it much thought. In the past couple of years I've stumbled over podcasts like "The Thinking Atheist" and I've taken quite an interest.
Seth is terrific because he fills a unique need in the atheist community. His work supports atheist with their emotional and social issues while most other blogs and podcasts address the academic and science issues. Seth's work is needed and appreciated. Thanks Seth.

Hello all, new to the forum and have only been listening to the podcast a couple days now. I'm 25, live in Houston, educated in psychology and in love with science and reason. It's great to read things and hear things from similar minds!

I'm a 14 year old guy living in singapore! This is my first forum so yeah hope it goes well. I'm a guitarist (into retro blues rock), as you can tell by my username. I'm from a protestant christian family, still finding a way to tell them about my deconversion. Hope I can learn more about atheism here!

RE: Introduce Yourself HERE!
Hello all. I currently live in Ankara, Turkey but I'm a Canadian through and through. I also lived in Moscow, Russian Federation. I realized I was an atheist in 2007, considered myself a non-practicing catholic since 1994 and was being groomed for priesthood right after high school... Phew... that was a close one...

Been with my wife for over 20 years, happily unmarried with two kids... (never felt we needed a priest's nor a judge's permission to sleep with my wife)

We are raising our kids to understand critical thinking and plan well thought out arguments... this could bite me in the butt if they master the skill before they get their first car...

Anyway, I listen to the podcasts "religiously", even in Turkey... even if some hotel WiFi networks block the sight.

Happy to be registered and active on this site.

RE: Introduce Yourself HERE!
Hello, I'm an atheist and a teacher of young children. I remember distinctly telling my friends at about age 8 or 9 that I thought the bible was just a load of stories that probably didn't happen. So I spent most of my life an agnostic. I tried Zen buddhism whilst living in Japan and I spent about 2 years messing around with wicca, however they all had that organised religion theme which I wasn't keen on.
Since reading the God Delusion (and studying a degree in biology with a heavy specialism in evolution) I came out as atheist. Most of my friends are also atheist and my family don't really have a strong opinion on it one way or another (they are mostly agnostic). One catholic work colleague told me that I "wasn't atheist...not really". I just smiled and re-evaluated my relationship with them. Another mormon work colleague who claimed Darwin falsified his work and it was all rubbish didn't like my retort about the life and workings of Joseph Smith...I re-evaluated my relationship with them too. I do live with a passionate christian and we get along really well. We just don't discuss religion as a rule of thumb because we just cant agree so for an easy life we don't discuss and that suits me fine (I'm moving out in 2 months time).

Anyway, hello!

Welcome, fellow heathen.
