Hello! It is good to see a conservative here! I'm not one myself but anything to break the leftist orthodoxy here.

Hi!

Yes, my real name is Denny McLain and I live outside Dallas Tx growing up originally in the Midwest. My reason for joining is frankly I never believed the whole God thing. but what really did it for me was traveling and see the religious abuses in Central Mexico and South America. What the Catholics did was shameful at best and an example of how aggressive organized religion is and what it's real goal is. Not the good guys they picture themselves to be.

Anyway, I look forward to learning from others. I thank you in advance.

Denny

RE: Introduce Yourself HERE!
Hi folks!
I'm Harvey. Well, acutally not. But if you remove the first and the last letter from my username, you are left with my real name. I'm fifty years of age, and have been goodless and proud my entire life.

I have a wife and a ten year old daughter. I have a university degree in economics. I have been selfemployed for most of my life, but have also spent a few years as a civil servant.

I live in a secular society, where my grandmothers generation was the last for whom religion really mattered. But the void left by a church in recession, has quickly been filled by all sorts of alternative beliefs, and tv-shows like "The power of the spirits" are hugely popular.

I like to go fishing, and am a member of a local specimen group. I'm also an avid reader. Life is good when I catch a new PB (personal best) of one of the species I fish for, the humble roach beeing my favourite. I measure their length, record their weight, take their picture, ask their name (Big Grin joke), and return them to the river. True happiness is when I have found a book I really enjoy, and have more than four hundred pages left to read.

I'm fascinated by the psycholgy of cults, both religious, pseudo-religious and political, what lures people into these gruops and what keep them from leaving.

My favourite cult at the moment, and main source of entertainment, I might add, is scientology. I feel a sense of guilt when I refer to them as my main source of entertainment. They are abusive on a grand scale, and responsible for ruining the lives of both members and defectors. But the comedy of the whole charade is also hard to miss.

PS. My avatar is Don Camillo, as portrayed by the french actor Fernandel. I love the books by Giovanni Guareschi. Maybe the communist mayor Peppone, played by italian Gino Cervi, would have been the better choice. But I have this soft spot for Don Camillo.
