That's the best idea I've heard in a long damn time! You'd have to be rich to do it though.

Churches are wealthy and can operate because of the misinformation they espouse. That's how they harness their energy.

But yeah, have a Saturday and Sunday school open to the public for a nominal donation plus a few good sponsors, and that would work.

I think in the Netherlands they just call that college.

Too bad Andrew Carnegie is dead. He was an Atheist, and probably would have really dug that idea

Also, you can't underestimate the power of the church to shut you down. They'd use all their devious tactics and political machinery to cast you as a godless, perverted, anti-American, socialist regime out to destroy the fabric of society. Remember, these people don't like competition.
If you want to read a good book on what's really been driving the fundamentalist agenda for the last thirty years, it's called:

"Republican Gomorrah" by Max Blumenthal

Bit of a left wing slant obviously, but the facts are beyond reproach and it's real.
There's no coincidence that things like your idea don't get off the ground. This is war for civilization to these people. And they fight dirty. They just don't realize that they are the biggest threat to humanity, not us.

This brings up the money point. Money = power, the church only has a political say-so because it has money. If we were to somehow aquire friends in higher places, maybe it would work. Money + Charismatic Speakers + Celebrity Endorsements = success for any political movement

RE: Introduction by Burgos
That sounds simple as a mathematical equation, but politics and culture aren't exact sciences.
They have money and political power because they distort information.
Not to mention the third angle on the power triad which is violence. (and there would be some) Those are the three main forms of power.
Information (or manipulation of), money, and violence are the "rock, scissors, paper" of our society. Each one can control the other and back and forth and on and on.

But I'd hate to give up on something that hasn't been tried. I just know you'd be opening up a whole can of worms. Institutions that succeed usually have a sound business model and this one would be a hugely challenging endeavor. But I like the direction of your thinking.

My faith in people is limited though." You can lead a horse to water" comes to mind.

You are right, it isn't as simple as a mathmatical equation, but it is a start...
I have to finish the service and get my Ph.D before I try to spark any political/social movements...

You could wait 'til your famous and get an honorary Ph.D. That 's what I'm doing.

Hey man, I know it's been stated before. But Do be Careful about what you do with the Military. In the Last Ten years or so There has been a recent upsurge in heavily Evangelical Christian church support among the Chaplaincy, Officers, and NCO's. Depending on where you end up and if you are lucky or not, they WILL make your life hell if you let them know of your non-standard belief set. This is not a question of Might.

Admittedly going to one of the Churches on Base especially an evangelical one can make your time in the military easier, as the Non-conformists end up doing the work you would otherwise been made to do.

Hey. About my third post here, haven't been lurking, just not around. Last night I saw a recent or new Thinking A. video (easily 5 stars) that reminded me of the forum.

Scanning down this thread I noticed Blumenthal's book mentioned.

Chapter six of Republican Gomorrah is available to read on line here: http://nospank.net/dobson1.htm

Everybody take care.
