Tongue Ironic Situations...
Just wondering if anyone wants to share an "ironic situation" they know of OR have been in...

Here's mine (so you know where I'm going).

I am a closet atheist who has not come out to anyone except this forum (just figured out my beliefs a month ago...)

== ME == (the atheist)
I go to church with my family every Sunday. I'm on two committee's at church (Evangelism/Communication + Nominating Committee for Deacons/Elders). I maintain the church website. 80% of the people I know in town are through my church.

== MY CO-WORKER == (the religious guy)
Went through divorce 7 years ago and "cannot remarry because the bible says so..."
Content to die a hermit (he is only 35).
Believes that dinosaur bones were "planted by scientist to fool the public into believing the earth is older than 6,000 yrs"
Thinks Carbon dating is a falsehood.
Does not attend church.
Does not do anything for any religious organization.

I find it ironic that I go to church and think it's a bunch of crap.
He does not go to church and believe everything in the bible...

And he is a smart guy... weird.

RE: Ironic Situations...
10 Ironic situations I know about:

1) Rain on wedding day
2) A free ride when you've already paid
3) Good advice that you just didn't take
4) A 98 year old man won the lottery and died the next day
5) A black fly in a chardonnay
6) Death row pardon two minutes too late
7) A traffic Jam when you're already late
8) No smoking sign on your cigarette break
9) 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife
10) Meeting the man of you dreams, and then meeting his beautiful wife

I always suspected KC was a chick.

See here they are, the bruises, some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

Being told before a spanking "this wil hurt me, more than it hurts you."

The sun rises in the West and the bird shits on the coffeetable.

Alanis is dumb. A fly in your Chardonnay is not ironic, it's just gross.

RE: Ironic Situations...
In all fairness, I don't think this is particularly ironic. When I was still deluded, I didn't go to church either (other than to light a candle and pray and be alone with god. Yeah, I was this stupid. But definitely not to attend service or to be with my "fellow believers".). I believed you were with god wherever you were and it was your actions that mattered, not a bunch of stupid ceremonies.

Plus, I'm just the type of person who finds this type of tribal communality on the repulsive side. Liking people or feeling closer to them just because we happen to be living in the same town, or to support the same team or to believe in the same imaginary friend, is not inclusive, it's exclusive.

The only community I have any interest in and care about, is humankind. Other than this I am interested in individuals, not communities, esp. communities that are only held together by something completely random, like religion or locality.
