I'd go to AA but they got no beer.

Based on nothing at all, AA isn't a religion. It's a scam, and a highly successful one-... wait. Oh. That is the definition of a religion. ... Never mind. Tongue

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

From your negative rep of me:
Quote:Rather tel lies than be a drunken moron! Fact is a few people like me here, who can buy and sell some of you. Have a nice day!

Few others I don't have the time to dig through atm and find. It's kinda the only response you ever have to me actually, even when you down reped Zeke just for up repping me you implied it. /shrug
I don't actually mind though, doing it even ONCE is hypocritical as hell, but I kinda figured you were projecting before and now I'm chuckling at how correct that hypothesis was haha.

Anyway is this really the point of the thread?

AA can work for some people and some people it just can't. The bigger problem I have on it is how inappropriately it's tied to the courts.

AI.R. was referring to me.
'Moron' expressed in anger.
Don't be so sensitive!

Hmmm! that thought has entered my mind too!
A sort of huge fonzi scheeme.
90% of alcoholic rehab systems use the AA program.
Those "trusted servants" seem to be doing well for themselves too!

RE: Is AA a religion?
No. I hate it, but no. AA is an attempt to psychologically resolve a physiological problem, namely addiction, and it works for some. Fortunately I don't have that problem - my number one addiction is Gwyneth Paltrow and all lesser addictions answer to her (in my mind, thus demonstrating that the "higher power" aspect is not without merit.)

For reference, have you ever apologized?

We have this innate definition of "perfect self" that also can be seen to be this "higher power."

Judges will sentence people to go to AA mettings where they are supposed to get a signature from an anonymous member.
I know several who will not sign.
I also know people never go at all and sign it themselves.
Either way it's useless.

RE: Is AA a religion?
One of the problems I have with AA is its claim that alcoholism is an illness.
They see it as a mental illness along with an allergy.
Normal drinkers (normies) even heavy drinkers, are held not to have this illness.
This artificial division makes for some dangerous drinkers thinking they are pretty normal, and some pretty normal drinkers thinking they suffer from alcoholism.
There are many other questionably cultish issues besides....
