Is Atheism a Religion.
I never thought so until I found Atheists adamant that 'Spontaneous
Creation' explains everything. SP takes a Leap of Faith - something
Atheists have always scoffed at in others. As a Buddhist I don't
believe in anything without thinking. That is why I find that only
Agnostics and Buddhists are independent objective thinkers.
Buddhism in a nutshell:
1. Buddha is Not a God
2. You Should Not Believe Anything Without Thinking
3. Gods and Deities are Cultural
4. But… Don’t worry too much about the nature of God
6. The Afterlife Depends on this Life
7. Books and Teachings are Very Important
8. Meditation is Key
9. Healing Comes from Mind
10. It’s Up To Ourselves
11. Our Bodies Are Precious
12. Your Spiritual Community is Important
13. Interconnectedness is the Nature of Reality
14. It’s Good to Be Good
15. Compassion is Key
16. Sex is Neither Bad nor Good
17. Strive for Balance
18. It’s Never Too Late to Begin

RE: Is Atheism a Religion.
No one's claiming to believe in "spontaneous creation"... we're just not claiming to believe in ideas that aren't backed by evidence. It doesn't require a leap of faith to be a skeptic.

My girlfriend is mad at me. Perhaps I shouldn't have tried cooking a stick in her non-stick pan.

Your premise is incorrect. "Atheists adamant that 'Spontaneous Creation' explains everything." is not a true statement.

Maybe some atheists believe that. Most atheists probably agree that we don't know the answer, but there are many hypotheses of which that is one.

So, no, atheism is not a religion.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

RE: Is Atheism a Religion.
Atheism is a religion like not-collecting stamps is a hobby.

Atheism simply states that you do not believe in God.
Period.
That is all folks.
Nothing to see here.

Nowhere does atheism include anything about evolution or where things came from or whatever.

The only Non-Religion is Agnoticism. Since neither Theists
or Atheists can prove or disprove the existence of God - both
are Religions and require a Leap of Faith. Some Philosophers
believe that God exists by reason of his own necessity. But
you can go round and round with that - much like Theism
and Atheism.

Atheism is a lack of belief in gods. This is different from a belief that there are no gods. An atheist can have this belief, but it is not a requirement to atheism.

RE: Is Atheism a Religion.
So what makes Buddhism better than atheism?

Maybe you should start a thread: "Ask a Buddhist". Those kind of religion threads tend to be informative and go over well.

RE: Is Atheism a Religion.
Healing comes from the mind my arse... I've not seen cancer cured by just thinking about it.

Here's my own interpretation...

1. Buddha is dead
2. You shouldn't believe in anything without evidence
3. God's and deities are imaginary
4. The nature of God is non-existent
5. The afterlife is wishful thinking
6. Information and learning is very important
7. Meditation is a good way to relax and think
8. Healing comes from medical science (which relies on point 6)
9. It is up to ourselves to give our lives meaning
10. Our bodies are our own, to care for or abuse as we wish
11. Your fellow living things are just as important as yourself
12. Interconnectedness is variable from person to person
13. Being good is beneficial to everyone
14. Compassion is nice
15. Sex can be good but can also be bad
16. Strive for reason
17. It's already begun
