a) because free will is not incompatible with determinism and
b) because everything is your fault... it is written!

We have to behave as if there is free will because it's an unavoidable profound illusion with an evolutionary purpose. It's impossible for anything to happen in any other way than it actually happens but we should pretend as if that's not really the case even though in fact we have no choice in the matter.

Why?

Would you sign a contract or an SLA with a machine?

If not, why not?

Physics suggests that the future is already set in stone

There's a BBC video on the page that's almost 6 minutes long. Take the time & watch it, it's pretty cool stuff.

Bullshit. Adam Becker doesn't even address causality, but instead focuses on loss of simultaneity. That has less to do with whether the future is set in stone and more to do with when an observer gets to the future.

The truth remains true even after you question it. Funny how religions don't want you questioning them. Censored

I have now way of knowing. If it's predetermined then I either would or wouldn't.

Fair enough. I'll rephrase:

Have you ever signed a contract or an Service Level Agreement with a machine?

If not, why not?

I have not. Why? Because there are no machines offering service contracts. Now if Data was real I would sign anything he wanted me to sign. Why? Because he is the shiznit.
