I want the truth no matter what the truth is. If it turns out my mother killed someone, and it turned out to be true, then I would want to know that. I don't know to try and convince myself that it is false. Even if the outcome of truth turns out to be something I do not want to be true, I still accept it as true.

Is there a special word for this mind set?

Masochist?

I agree with realist. It's a tough road at times. You need some intellectual resolve to come to terms with the fact that life can be shit sometimes, but that that's also part of it's beauty. Clever people have gone nuts trying to work it out.
