RE: Is there "atheist" music?
There was one post about Rush, but I'll add a few more of their songs. They aren't an anti-theist band and rarely sing about religion, but several of their songs are clearly atheistic:

Hemispheres - the entire album side (the first 5 songs) - not exactly atheistic, but they invent a god of balance to solve many of mankind's problems
Freewill
Witch Hunt
Mystic Rhythms
High Water
Roll the Bones
Totem
Sweet Miracle
Armor and Sword
The Way the Wind Blows
Faithless
BU2B
BU2B2

"Whores perform the same function as priests, but far more thoroughly." - Robert A. Heinlein

I love David Bazan. He was the only real member of Pedro The Lion, a "Christian" band back in the late 90's and through the 00's. Slowly, with every album David started publicly questioning everything he grew up with. He dropped the PTL moniker and went solo. Curse Your Branches is when he really started being vocal about completely leaving Christianity. He isn't necessarily an atheist but I think he considers himself agnostic. Let me know what you think....

David Bazan - When We Fell

With the threat of hell hanging over my head like a halo
I was made to believe in a couple of beautiful truths
That eventually had the effect of completely unraveling
The powerful curse put on me by you

When you set the table
And when you chose the scale
Did you write a riddle
That you knew they would fail?

Did you make them tremble
So they would tell the tale?
Did you push us when when we fell?

If my mother cries when I tell her what I have discovered
Then I hope she remembers she taught me to follow my heart
And if you bully her like you've done me with fear of damnation
Then I hope she can see you for what you are

What am I afraid of?
Whom did I betray?
In what medieval kingdom
Does justice work this way?

If you knew what would happen
And made us just the same
Then you, my lord, can take the blame

XTC - Jumping in Gomorrah

"J-U-M-P-I-N-G
Jumpin' in Gomorrah and religion-free!"

It should be our anthem.

The Damned - Anti-pope
======================
I'm going back to church tonight
Take me back when I was eight
But I don't mean to pray
I'm gonna nick the collection plate

I've got nothing against church
Or any people who go there and show they're
Plain ignorant and don't understand
A congregation at weekends won't change their behaviour
So many people are weak enough
To have to seek answers from pedlars of hope
I should know I used to go there myself
That's the day I became antipope

There's gonna be some fun tonight
Spreading news around the town
That the vicars are transvestites
With a fetish for robes and gowns

[chorus]

Religion doesn't mean a thing
it's just another way of being right wing
I think sex films are okay
I don't dig that pope no way

[chorus]

He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy! -Brian's mum

There's a band called Atheist?

Bury me with my guns on, so when I reach the other side - I can show him what it feels like to die.
Bury me with my guns on, so when I'm cast out of the sky, I can shoot the devil right between the eyes.

There has so far been just one mention of the ingenious Tim Minchin (Good Book). Yet there is much more. Catchy mellow piano melodies, witty acidic satiric lyrics.

Thank you God (Sam's mum)

"It Ain't Necessarily So" - George and Ira Gershwin

The things you’re liable
To read in a bible
Ain’t necessarily so.
Ain’t necessarily so.
No, it ain’t necessarily so.

There's a lot of metal in this thread and that's good, but I thought I might soften it up a bit. This is probably the most poignant song I know about atheism or apostasy. I think I may have posted this in another thread somewhere:

"One Sunday Morning" - Wilco

I said it's your God I don't believe in
No your bible can't be true
Knocked down by the long lie
He cried I fear what waits for you

"That's not the proof I want."
"You'll have such proof as exists. You are the only one responsible for your own wants."
- Isaac Asimov, I, Robot

Motionless in White is very atheist.

Shock And Awe Tactics-- The "application of massive or overwhelming force" to "disarm, incapacitate, or render the enemy impotent with as few casualties to ourselves and to noncombatants as possible"
