Indeed. There are people who have fooled themselves into thinking that there is a "mountain of evidence" supporting Bigfoot. Their biggest piece of "evidence" is the large number of eyewitness accounts. They claim that all of the accounts are consistent and that the people reporting them don't have histories of mental illness. This basically amounts to an ad populum
argument. They forget that the accounts are in no way consistent and that people can be mistaken. For instance, the size of the creature ranges between 7 to 12 feet in height, the color and length of its hair is always different, and the shape of it's nose (hooded vs. gorilla-like) is always different. People who claim to have had an up close encounter are either lying or nuts. For the large majority who don't claim such encounters, they have most likely confused bears for the creature. Many of the genetics tests of Bigfoot and Yeti samples I've read about came back as bear. Then there is the fact that bears look like a hairy biped when standing on their feet.
