It's healthy unless it is addictive to you. Physical release of tension is healthy. Seeking it above all else is not healthy.

RE: Is watching porn healthy?
I think the answer is different for different people. In complete isolation from other factors, I don't think there is anything unhealthy about it. However, there are factors to take into consideration. If you're spending an excessive amount time watching and especially if you're using time that should be dedicated to responsibilities, then it could be unhealthy. If you're married, it may make a difference too because, if you're spouse isn't ok with it, then you will be hiding it and may feel some guilt that may also come out in different ways. Even if you're spouse is ok with it, it's possible that it could detract from your marital sex life (it may also enhance it - again different people are different). (I know you said you are single, but I was answering more in general.)

I am not accountable to any God. I am accountable to myself - and not because I think I am God as some theists would try to assert - but because, no matter what actions I take, thoughts I think, or words I utter, I have to be able to live with myself.

RE: Is watching porn healthy?
You grew up Catholic. Of course you feel shame. It was ingrained in your mind from a young age.

No, there's nothing wrong with porn unless the production of that pornography was exploitative of the workers or it causes other problems in your life.

But I'll share with you my favorite atheist/Catholic joke. I try to tell it roughly the same way every time, but I invariably change or forget stuff. I'll do my best:

An atheist dies and goes to Hell. Obviously, this is quite a shock for him! But there he stands before the Great Black Gates, with "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here" above them... Cerberus the dog standing guard beside the river Styx... the works. The atheist trembles as the gates creak open to reveal Satan Himself standing there, twenty feet of red demon flesh, wings, forked tail, horns... the works.

In a great booming voice, Satan says, "Welcome to Hell, lost soul. Come, and I will show you your eternity."

The atheist is overcome with terror, but he follows as Satan turns and walks deeper into Hell. The atheist can't take his eyes off the massive black wings, for a bit, and isn't even hearing what Satan is saying... but after they've gone a couple of hundred meters, the atheist recovers a bit and looks around.

He sees that there's grass... and the sun is shining... and trees... and people all around him are having fun. There are roller-coasters, and sports events, and video game centers, and hang gliding, and sailing on the lake, and what appears to be an orgy going on off to one side of the path... every pleasure imaginable to the human mind is there all around him.

Satan continues on for a few more steps before he notices he has lost his newbie, so he turns around and says, "Oh right, sorry, dude. I totally forgot to tell you on the way in... yeah, Hell is nothing like what you were told. That stuff you heard is just propaganda for the other side. They're just trying to win recruits by making us sound bad. All that stuff at the gates is just to keep their proselytizers away. Don't worry! We're totally cool here. Literally anything you want, just ask and it will be provided for you."

With a massive sigh of relief, the atheist walks beside Satan as they continue the tour, seeing so many awesome things to do and enjoy that he realizes it will take an eternity to try them all.

But after a few more minutes, they crest a hill, and he sees it: The Lake of Fire! A huge pit full of molten sulfur containing billions of souls, wailing in agony as their flesh is burned away only to regrow again, being prodded by demons with pitchforks.

The atheist screams and recoils in horror, but Satan runs over to him and says,

"Whoa whoa whoa... don't worry! That's just for the Catholics. They insisted!"

"Theology made no provision for evolution. The biblical authors had missed the most important revelation of all! Could it be that they were not really privy to the thoughts of God?" - E. O. Wilson

RE: Is watching porn healthy?
Anything can become an obsession -- video games, porn, even social media.

If it takes away from your life -- meaning that activity is more important than going to work, seeing to your daily needs, being with family or friends, etc., then it's probably unhealthy.

There are plenty of people who become religious zealots. I view it much the same way.

Unlike the religious --- at least most porn watchers have the common decency to do their thing in the privacy of their own home.....

RE: Is watching porn healthy?
It's stupid. It objectifies people.
I think "That person is a real person ... why are they having to do this ? Are they proud of this ?" It makes me nervous for them. It can't be good for their long-term best interest. Other than that, it's just .... stupid.

Insufferable know-it-all.Einstein God has a plan for us. Please stop screwing it up with your prayers.

Is watching porn healthy?
As far as I know it isn't unhealthy and I see nothing wrong with it.

The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

39 huh. That's just about the time you should start worrying about your prostate. Regular whacking off will keep the fella happy. A happy prostate is a healthy prostate.

As far as the guilt and shame goes, do you feel guilty when you take an antibiotic?

There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. -Camus

RE: Is watching porn healthy?
Watching porn when you want to jerk off is fine just like jerking off itself is fine. Porn cannot be unhealthy by it's nature. You are a consumer and what you consume is your business. You like watching porn, watch it, you like watching the news, watch them. It is your decision, you are old enough to make that decision. Also porn can be fucking hot to watch.

But BuckyBall showed the other side of the coin. Maybe you don't like other things connected to porn. For example that it mass produced and often fake, maybe you can't find the thing that you would enjoy, maybe all the pop up advertisement annoys you, maybe this maybe that.

In reality, it is up to you.
If you want to watch it, just do it.
If not, no one will make you watch it.

Also congratulations for finding reason. Welcome to the other side.
