First of all, I don't think he's going to be like Clinton policy wise. I hope he doesn't end up like Clinton on policy. It would be nice to see those "12 million" jobs, however.

This is kind of how I see it, currently. Maybe I'm just being optimistic.

Obama, hopefully, learned from his political mistake(s), i.e. messaging/communication with American people and political negotiation, which he mentioned in his speech. He has that constituency/demographics, that I mentioned, that he can take popular ideas to, toward forcing Republicans to compromise. If he takes ideas that can gain broad, popular support among groups of people, large enough to continually win both the White House and Senate, that's a good political hand. He just won re-election, by a decent enough margin, with unemployment at almost 8%, probably higher if you count people who have just given up. That means that the democratic support, favors going in a Democratic direction. Republicans are going to react to that.

The Republicans played hardball. They played hardball, political poker. They went all in for the White House on a hand that turned out to be a full house versus a straight flush. There are consequences to big bets: If you lose, you have to give up the goods. Republicans are going to have to meet him halfway, because that's where the popularity in terms of ideas are. Obama is not up for re-election this time around. They can't blame their lack of compromising on a random 2016 Democratic candidate, and they will have a tough time blaming it on Obama, as they just found out in this election. People didn't fall for it.

The Paradox Of Fools And Wise Men:
“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser men so full of doubts.” ― Bertrand Russell

The People's Republic of Maryland voted as expected. We went with Obama 61.5%-36.4%. Only really close ballot questions were supporting a law already passed by the legislation recognizing gay marriage which passed 51.9%-48.1% and allowing casinos to offer table games which also passed 52%-48% (I'm too smart to gamble but wotthefuck do I care if someone else wants to.) And we passed the DREAM Act which allows illegal immigrants to pay In-state College Tuition rates 58.3%-41.7%.

So if you're a gay illegal immigrant who likes to gamble looking for an education, come to Maryland. We'll take care of you. Big Grin

But we had some seriously wtf?!? ballot questions.

Pass a Constitutional Amendment requiring judges of the Orphan's Court to be licensed and in good standing with the Maryland Bar. ... Blink ... Huh ... you mean they don't have to be now?

Pass a Constitutional Amendment allowing elected officials to be automatically suspended and removed if they're convicted of certain crimes in office. ... Blink ... Huh ... you mean we can't do that now? We have my home Prince Georges County to thank for that one. In PG County we don't have to worry about the "revolving door" of politicians leaving office only to be hired by lobbyists, our elected officials generally wind up in jail. Big Grin

Breathing - it's more art than science.

Don't forget... the state of Washington in the same night won GAY MARRIAGE and legalized marijuana. Not sure how the maryjane thing works. But one of my friends posted: "I can finally be recognized.... as an equal." and it damn near brought a tear to my eye.

I don't talk gay, I don't walk gay, it's like people don't even know I'm gay unless I'm blowing them.

I keep forgetting you're not from around here. During the election, you also get to vote for state legislature on your ballot. So everything from local city folk for office positions, to state positions, county positions, etc. Washington and Oregon went for Marijuana (and another state I forget), and Washington also went for Gay marriage and it passed on both. Oregon failed on marijuana.

So yeah, lots of states had some huge changes on top of the election. It's sort of like a shitstorm for the country for the election, and then mini shirtstorms for each state lol.

RE: It's Obama - 4 more years
fair enough.

Here when it's election it's just election.

The only time the public vote on anything is in the case of a referendum, which is basically like a petition with a certain amount of signatures (50,000 I think). But in saying that it's not binding. The government has to do a referendum if the requirements are met, but doesn't have to change or make the law in which it regards.

Bit fucked up really. First time I ever voted was for one of those, 79% voted yes but the government still said no.

I don't talk gay, I don't walk gay, it's like people don't even know I'm gay unless I'm blowing them.

I wouldn't really say Obama's presidency is a turd sandwich. I would say it is a chance for some mistakes to be corrected, and leave it at that.
