Nah, he won the popular vote as well. Nowhere near as large as the electoral vote, but still by a fair margin.
Apparently I didn't have the final numbers yet. When I looked it up, both of them had 49 million votes and Romney was leading by a few thousand. Now it says that Romney has 56,9 million and Obama 59,5 million votes.

You misunderstood me. What I was trying to say is that if the distribution of votes had been the same in a different country, Romney would've won because the voting system is different.
