I remember when grandma traded in her enameled cast iron wood burning cook stove for an electric one. The stove she got rid of would probably cost $5-6 thousand these days.

I had, when I first moved into this house ---- a stove that was wood burner on the left -- electric on the right -- with an electric oven --- that could also be heated by wood........

This is a check spindle. It holds a stack of checks/bills/etc. by piercing them.
