His wife will probably be forced to forgive him, after admitting how his sin was rooted in her behavior. I wish she'd divorce him, but I doubt that will happen.

I'm actually kind of surprised….that he wasn't specifically asking for schoolgirl types, given his history.

RE: Josh Duggar had an Ashley Madision Account
I keep hearing that, Julep... is there any actual evidence that Josh Duggar's behavior as a teenager was rooted in a tendency toward child molestation as an adult?

Meaning, is there any proof of that kind of a psychological connection in the behavior between pubescent years spent in an isolated and sexually-confusing social environment (extreme Christian fundamentalism), resulting in inappropriate behavior expression, and an actual predatory nature?

I am unfamiliar with this, and I think that we as skeptics should be

1) Careful about jumping on pop-psychology bandwagons or sexual-shaming trends, and

2) Considering that Josh may be as much a victim of that environment's isolation as the siblings he molested, and it's entirely possible that he's not a predator by nature but rather by indoctrination, a trend which he broke once he was able to (for instance) get on AshleyMadison.com and meet women for normal sexual encounters (normal being a relative term here, of course).

Trust me, nobody hates sexual predators more than I do (having just spent almost a decade surrounded by the genuine-article Creeps), but I'm trying to be objective about this, and I fear that in our eagerness to bash the Duggars for being moralizing Christians, we may be jumping on a dangerous bandwagon of ideas. I repeat: before anyone even suggests so, I am not defending predators, only suggesting that the actions of a sexually confused teenager may not be indicative of a child molester, in the adult sense of the term.

Jared, on the other hand... *shudder*

Good point.

Given that one of his victims was very young (5) and he was 15, and that he kept on touching his sisters even after they had complained about it, I'm going to say I think he was and remains a predator, and my opinion is that he is still sexually attracted to children. But it's just my opinion. However, beyond a doubt in my mind, he is a sexual predator.

I have no problems believing that his upbringing twisted his sexuality. Teenagers who are simply sexually confused may enter into inappropriate consensual relationships, with one another and with adults. But teenagers who fondle their sisters while asleep, who fondle prepubescent girls--well, while they may be sexually confused, they are also sexual predators and utterly detestable, and I don't think people grow out of being predators.

I'm familiar with the pressures of growing up in a fundie household, because I did, and I agree that they can warp one's personality. However, Josh Duggar is an adult and as responsible for his actions as any other adult. Also, as he has been an advocate for laws based on his religion's interpretation of morality, his personal morality is deserving of extra scrutiny.

Both are great examples of why we should be more choosy about who we make famous.

I mean, for fuck's sake, Ted Nugent is still parading about waving his penis-compensaotrs everywhere while going on ignorant and bigoted racial tirades. Meanwhile, his spotlight has been stolen by Trump.

Look at the priest sex scandals that were happening in the Catholic Church for years. I don't believe that Catholicism breeds sexual misconduct and criminal activity, but it offers a haven for it. And it also causes people to think that if someone is religious, he/she would never do anything unsavory. Which is why religion is so dangerous. I also think that when you teach kids that sex outside of marriage is bad bad bad bad bad...over and over...the results when the kid becomes a teen or an adult may just be horrifying.

Raise your hand if you're surprised.

This is what happens when you're almost zealot like in your religion. You vilify basic biological needs such as sex and hormonal urges and it royally effs people up. This is why I am raising my kids in a Godly manner but not going to condemn normal behaviors such as masturbation or sexual urges. Instead, I'm going to educate and endorse a sense of openness in regards to things like this; especially during the confusing, influential stages of puberty.
