Actually the whole concept of "magisterium" stems from the (now), mistaken idea that "they" know something, that "we" don't. In Medieval times that was true. It is no longer. Now, we ALL learn from each other. The idea that the guy up in the pulpit has something to say, (no matter how badly, per their usual), is also outdated. The "priest as keeper of the secret knowledge" is fascinating. http://encyclopedia.jrank.org/articles/p...ledge.html.

I don't quite understand the Catholic Church's reaction to all of this. It seems way overblown.
There has to be something (inside politics) going on between the Democrat party and the Church that we will find out about later.

Well well. I found an interesting link between the Vatican Bank scandal, and the ("Dubya") Bush Aministration, and the Iraq war.

There was a guy named Licio Geli, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Licio_Gelli), who was involved with the forgery of the documents which supposedly justified the Iraq war. The Iranain envoy to the Vatican, was supposedly the original source of the documents. Gelli also played a part in the fall of the Banco Ambrosiano, in Milan.

Sooooooo...
We went to war in Iraq because the Iranians gave forged documents to a guy at the Vatican who then gave them to the Bush administration who used them to justify the war.
...and it's all true because it's right there on Wikipedia, backed up by the Democratic Underground.
We all get the chance to step in it once in a while.
How is that tinfoil hat fitting today? Yes

Pointing out a link, does not assert a conclusion, just a curiosity.

There was a piece by Sylvia Poggioli on NPR this morning, about the anachronistic authority model, and the disconnect with the fact that everyone who comes to work there, is now from a democracy.

Sad RE: Kathleen Sebelius, Women, and the flawed authority model of the Roman Catholic Church
Come on you guy's are supposed to be skeptics you've got cnn and conspiracy sites at least the NPR one sounds legit.

As to you're comments (sorry it took me so long my keyboard at home is busted and i'm forced to use the on screen keyboard, commenting on forums is not a high priority)

@ BuckyBall
Just because I said I dislike Vatican 2 doesn't mean I don't follow it. And truth be told most of the reasons I dislike it are cosmetic ie no Papal Crown, Latin is mostly out and just the veering away from the symbols of the old church. Just because you live in a dictatorship doesn't mean you don't have freedom of speech.
I wouldn't call myself a cafeteria Catholic as I follow all of the doctrines of the church including transubstantiation (I don't think I've spelled that word correctly on the first try yet) and the Infallibility of the pope. the only thing that distances me from other (real) Catholics is that I am not very spiritual so I rarely pray or fast.

I'm homophobic in the same way that I'm arachnophobic. I'm not scared of gay people but I'm going to scream if I find one in my bath.

I'm. Also homophobic in the same way I'm arachnophobic. I'm scared of spiders but I'd still fuck'em.
