Kenji (Boxing Boy) Manga
I've been a big fan of martial arts and comic books ever since my childhood. That's why I was glad to stumble upon a Japanese manga some years ago entitled Kenji (Boxing Boy). It's about a small boy who learns the Chinese martial art of Baji boxing from his grandfather. He later learns other Chinese and Japanese styles from his grandfather's friends. Kenji uses these skills against various bullies/fighters that he comes across in his daily life. What I like most about the series is that the author is both a practitioner and historian of Chinese martial arts. Therefore, the styles presented are the real deal and not the ambiguous punching and kicking of most genre staples. And I'm happy to report that not a single laser beam or lightning bolt is shot from a character's hands. This, I feel, is used way too much. All fighting in Kenji is based on strength and skill, not someone's ability to blow up a planet. Check it out.
