So just how many women, in your venerable estimation, should we allow to have their lives ruined by an unplanned pregnancy before standing up to Jesus, Inc.? Just how much collateral damage should society suffer in these one-sided battles in the Great American Culture War before we show concern?

By your dubious rationale, the authorities shouldn't get worried about a serial killer until their body count hits quadruple digits. Even then, why bother? A serial killer only affects a small percentage of the population regardless of how industrious they are.

In short, O Lord Helmet, how many women and their families need to be thrown under the church bus before it becomes a serious problem worthy of your consideration?

Sad that these morons rightfully bitch about the east and their oppressive treatment of females but want to replicate a Christian theocracy here.

In this sense Kentucky is on the cutting edge.

I am genuinely concerned about this. The brainwashed religious all have at least 4 kids, I girl I used to work with now has 8 kids. They homeschool, indoctrinate (brainwash), and their kids go on to have 6 of their own.
This is a legitimate concern.

Religion is a disease and that is one way they spread it, by breeding more mindless drones.

They don't have a problem with a theocracy as long as it's the right theo. Theirs.

If there was any fairness in the world - any state that restricts abortion should have an additional state income tax - specifically slating the money for the medical, housing and educational needs of every unwanted child..

Then pregnant women from all other 49 started could go there, have a kid, leave it there and split....

Bet it wouldn't take long for the fetus sniffers to change their minds...

Secular neo-nazis who are stern opponent of abortion even came up with a name for it: White Sharia. When they realised that their views of women and the views of Muslim fundamentalist were pretty much the same (with the exception of the burka/niqab/hijab), it made sense to name their social project like so.

Freedom is servitude to justice and intellectual honesty.

Great idea, but that would increase the taxes for all citizens of the state and not just the regressives. The tax should be imposed on churches and any other religion-affiliated business or organization. They're spreading the hate and causing the problem, let them pay the bills. Hell, make it even easier and simply double the taxes of any registered Republican.

That may be the case, there are outliers in any group. Hell, there are gay, black Republicans for fuck's sake. I've never had the misfortune to run across an anti-choice Democrat but would welcome the opportunity to peek under their hood.

However, it wasn't my intention to use the familiar stereotype of the backwards GOP enthusiast. While some Dems might be dysfunctional enough to be anti-choice, anti-gay, whatever, the mildest Republican voter is part of the problem and not the solution. Moderate conservatives are like so-called moderate theists. They provide cover and at least tacit support to the fanatics.

I think OLB's idea is better. After all the consequence of being forced to bear all those kids is carried by society as a whole - if you don't educate them and give them a good start in life they become the next generation of poor and uneducated, which is a cost to all society, not only those who voted for abortion laws. So all society, not only those who voted for abortion laws, should be willing to mitigate that cost. It will only increase the political pressure to change the law.
