RE: LA public schools using bibles to teach science
I would also like to reiterate a sentiment I've already shared in another thread:

Bossier Parish isn't considered a *real* part of LA. Southern LA and Northern LA actually don't like each other... like at all... and Bossier Parish is the bastard stepchild of Northern LA... so much so that it's unofficially a part of Texas.

So, blame Texas.

Having lived in Texas, I think I can safely say that most Texans resent that comment. Big Grin

Sounds ok. As long as it involves fire. Shy

"Okay class, safety glasses on. Today I'm going to demonstrate a combustion reaction using this bible that was so kindly donated to the school."

Breathing masks too! Remember, Bibles cause cancer! (When burnt.)

I guess we can give them to Arkansas then.

Oh, I was hoping this story was more positive. And maybe about L.A. and actually how they're using Bibles as weights in science class. They'd make good weights

A depressing report out of Louisiana reveals that creationism is being taught to children in public school science classrooms, and that some students read the Book of Genesis in order to learn the ‘science’ of creationism in biology class.
Zack Kopplin, writing for Slate, obtained emails via a public records request from the Bossier Parish school district. The results are disturbing and disappointing, and reveal a school district that is using time in the science classroom to indoctrinate students into the mysteries of Christian fundamentalism.

This just makes me feel really sad. This is exactly part of the reason why our schools are failing so drastically. It makes me feel really sad when I hear about children who don't really know any better and have been completely sheltered from any and all other evidence to be force fed this crap and presented as the truth.

What makes me really sad is the fact that evolution is being taught in schools.

Your unhappiness gives me another reason to carry on. Thank you. Thumbsup

Yeah, because you don't want kids learning actual science, incase they start to see through all that bronze age superstition you lot so dearly cling on to, hey?Smartass
